Speaking of sunflowers... I've heard tell that a friend of a friend that may have known someone in the know, brought some seeds with him to visit his family in Colombia , South America ....pretty sure it's the tallest ever grown on the equator...(and those Colombians are about tall as umpa lumpas)...pretty cool

Here's one for the new growers that feel like they are waaaay behind after seeing some journals...(I remeber my first time)...don't judge your plant by what others have in their gardens...this one was planted five days ago...I think it can still get to 1000lbs...plenty of time to grow a big pumpkin...besides..most of these guys are some of the best growers in the world...you'll drive yourself nutz trying to keep up...just keep up with your weeding/ burying and stick to your feeding schedule...these plants can amaze...

Tuesday, June 21 View Page
It is however, planted in the ThuNderDome ....I was gonna try and sandbag this area but I didn't get the start I was hoping for with the plants ...this was my dumping area for the last few years...used to be where the previous owners dumped all the poop from the horses that were here....poop, and garbage..and I mean garbage!!!broken glass, equine hypodermic needles, sharp rusty metal .. Sunday, July 3 View Page

Here's one I urge everyone to try now that it's strawberry season.. Strawberry-mango salsa... 2 cups diced strawberries 1 1/2 cup diced grape tomatoes 2 mangos diced 1 3/4 cup diced red onion 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro(or too taste) Juice of two limes 1/4 cup olive oil 1 oz white balsamic vinegar(or too taste) 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper And I recommend the lime flavored tortillas I know... Sounds gross but everyone asks for the recipee.. Enjoy!!!

Friday, July 22 View Page
These are the short "big head "sunflowers we got in the seed exchange ... Notice how they are growing shortest to tallest as to make a good photo ...I willed that to happen...too bad they'll face the corn when they flower....dang

Friday, July 22 View Page
The long gourd trellis is filling up...snapped the main off the pear gourd trying to position it...and the "long gourd" has been trained back to the ground because stupid me planted a field pumpkin ...needs weeding...oh honey..!?

Sunday, July 24 View Page
Well... The storm did some damage around town ... Big tree down at the high school ... About 1500 yards upwind from me, 5 telephone poles down with a microburst/flatline wind...go figure the one plant,(lil bessie) that had a wind fence was the only one that was unharmed...whimpy did ok, a few vines came up and the four lober has hail marks so it looks like I'm growing the 3 lobe....a little bummed about it but I'll give it my all..the leaves have some more holes but overall not bad...

Sunday, July 24 View Page
Here's the bad...the next open this morning but I missed the pollination... I'm sure the bees took care of it...this ones a five lobe..today's was a four lobe...I should cut this right?

Tuesday, July 26 View Page
Poor Lily ... We were out in the patch late last night and I think she thought our black and white cat "teeners" escaped from the house...it wasn't him...mommy won't play w her today and I won't even go near her...

Tuesday, July 26 View Page
In the upper right hand corner there is a younger set that looks just like the 7.05 mother...I'll watch these closely ... Only one per plant for me this year...very important to pick the right shape...

Tuesday, July 26 View Page
High hopes for these....

Tuesday, July 26 View Page
And look at this baby ... He kinda leaned out to say hello this morn..."hello!?...here I am!"...also looks identical to the 7.05...

Tuesday, July 26 View Page
Had to raise the flower pot that was getting taken over by the field pumpkin...whimpy plant is almost terminated...

Tuesday, July 26 View Page
If it weren't for the hail and sunburn this plant would look perfect to me...tissue tests for both whimpy and lil bessie plants sent...a little birdy is going to help me read them...getting very excited here....

Wednesday, July 27 View Page
And here's where I thought I planted the extra field pumpkins ...yup.. Found the long gourds... I pulled an old hay wagon over for them to climb on... It fell apart during the move...rotted rails... Still my fault...sorry dad, I'll fix it..

Wednesday, July 27 View Page
