Here are some results from the only true and legit weigh-off of giant pumpkins and other giant vegetables in my country!
In 2016 in Croatia there was no giant pumpkins (well, a true giant pumpkins with true weights, not some fictious weights, Lol...), because I didn't grow giant pumpkins this year (I took year off), and because there are no other serious growers here (unfortunately for now), but there were other fruits from other categories which I grew!
- Largest and heaviest “Pelota gourd” in 2016, 85.3 lbs (C), official record for my country
- Largest and heaviest “Bushel gourd” in 2016, 124.5 lbs (C)
- Heaviest tomato in 2016, 3.74 lbs (C)
- Largest “Field pumpkin” in 2016, 51.8 lbs (C)

and so, as my patches resting this year, and as I took a year off of growing giant pumpkins, and took it easy on growing in general this year, this is left for next year if I decide to grow ;) Cover crop is growing nicely on some spots ;D ... and, Gene is the man!

But there was this in garden also... Est about 300 – 350 kg. Grew in field/garden (not in patch), just for display, and this is a plant that was done nothing to it, small plant, no soil preparation, no watering, no vine burying, no pruning, no fertilizing and feeding, absolutely nothing all season, basically without any care... Just put seed in the soil and left to grow!
In a season like we had this year anyone can grow 700 to 900 lbs (and more, a 1000 pounds) pumpkin without doing anything! It is quite easy when mother nature do it all for you!! ha ha, Lol :-D
The weather is the key… but.. the real skills and knowledge shows in a very challenging years, like we had here in 2015!
Respect to anyone who grows in harsh, demanding environments and climate! That's the real deal.
