Here is story my 7 years old sons "503 Hartman" Howard Dill Award winner. It was selfed off of the 1399 Christensen... The next few diary entries will show how disgusted and the heartbroken we are after this evenings findings at the SC State Fair.

Here is a picture of his pumpkin on display at the SC State Fair. It was the first thing you would see when you entered the building. They always do a nice job decorating.

This is what we found tonight after a friend posted on FB that the 3 pumpkins we had entered were no longer on display... We found this outside of the Maintenance Department. Seeds from 2 different pumpkins on the ground, in aluminum trays, in plastic bags, and in the dumpster along with another pumpkin that was rotting. One of the workers decide to take it upon himself to carve my 7 year old sons Howard Dill Award winning pumpkin before the fair was even over. Very specific instructions were given that in the event of any rotting/leaking that we were to be notified immediately so I could remove the seeds.

Needless to say, this was a difficult evening for us to swallow. The look on his face after pulling up to see HIS pumpkin carved by someone other than himself breaks my heart. Here is a 7 year old who was interviewed and on TV for a gardening segment "Gandy's Garden" for all of his hard work and dedication, all thrown away in an instant. This will be the last year we enter at our local fair...
