The madness has begun! A few giant tomato seeds started for breeding purposes and for creating extra pollen once the megablooms start coming on in June. The past couple of years I've had a LOT of trouble getting enough viable pollen until September. More pictures and discussion at blog: https://delectationoftomatoes.wordpress.com/2015/01/29/giant-tomato-breeding-2015/

Finally got around to starting giant pumpkin seeds 24 of them! Gallon-sized pots with heating pad below, T-12 lights above. Should be plenty warm. Majority of these will be offered for sale to local seedling customers. I don't yet even have a place dedicated to grow giant pumpkins - no patch yet!

Largest tomato so far this year was: Big Zac (3.258 DT 2015)(5.67 Marley 2014) But it looked like lobes my not have been joined enough to count so I did not submit it here. Currently I am tracking 5 promising looking tomatoes. A picture of the largest of these is shown here - result of one of my crosses from 2014: Michael's Portuguese Monster (2.610 DT 2012) X Delicious (6.51 Meisner 2011) (F2) It currently measures to 3.1 lbs. and is on track to hit perhaps 3.8, maybe more if the weather cools off some next week.

Michael's Portuguese Monster (2.610 DT 2012) X Delicious (6.51 Meisner 2011) Now measuring to 3.8 lbs. and growing slightly faster than my personal best. Outside chance of breaking the 5 lb. barrier?? This picture is 8 days old. I have five others I'm tracking that have a chance of topping out in the 3-5 lbs. range. Regrettably, I've been forced to move right in the middle of growing season and it's been all I can do just to keep the tomato plants from dying this year - and convince those that bought the property to let me come twice a week to water and harvest...
