New season is almost here. Time to be more active. I like the color of my rye, that means there are enough nutrients in the soil.

first pollination of the year. 2323 Meier x 1625 Gantner. But i think the next one in about 3ft will be the keeper.

1751 Lovse - Very hard plant to control, from little cracks on main vine, double leaves and flower, first side vine was ribbon, leaf and male flower growing together( have never seen that befor)... But despite all that, the plant seems to be growing just fine now, hope it stays so.

Monday, June 15 View Page
1625 Gantner

Monday, June 22 View Page
2323 - two pollination on the plant, with both i am not satisfied because male flowers 1625 Gantner were poor. And also growing slow, probably due to very low temperatures. In one week there will be another female ready.

Monday, June 22 View Page
1751x self because no other males were available on the pollinating day. Have to wait for the next female, another week or so.

Monday, June 22 View Page
1625 Gantner, no pollination yet, but very beautiful plant. Next week female should be ready.

Monday, June 22 View Page
all vines buried today and tomorrow will be rain all day long, so i am very pleased i buried them.

1751 plant, now it is growing just fine, no more strange mutations.

Tuesday, June 30 View Page
1625 gantner, the keeper. One open pollination is on, but will be removed. We were on a short vacation, when the female opened, just one day before our return.

Tuesday, July 14 View Page
2323 the plant though is beautiful.

Tuesday, July 14 View Page
1751, it seems this one is also done, there is another open pollination on the plant, but very small. If nothing comes from this two, i will cut the plant.

Tuesday, July 14 View Page
1625 Gantner, my fingers are crossed.

Thursday, July 16 View Page
2323 more new trouble, blossom end started to be soft, so for safety reasons i removed it. This is the 2nd case here in Europe, so keep your eyes on your 2323 blossom end.

Preparations for season 2016 started already, finally bought a used greenhouse, for one pumpkin. It is almost build up, hope tomorrow i will finish. The i must till the soil in and plant rye. Foil will come up in the spring.

Friday, October 2 View Page
Turkey manure is here, is a bit composted. I have a lot if it, should cover the next 2-3 seasons.

Friday, October 2 View Page
manure was spread and the soil ploughed in the greenhouse and outside. Because of the greenhouse, now i have less space outside, so probably next year only 2 plants. Or i will expand my patch, place i have enough :)

Saturday, October 24 View Page
Preparations for next season, this is compost from leaves, grass and some manure. Started last year in the fall. This was about 50 wheelbarrows. In the next days i will till and sow rye.
