Well its been interesting this year so far, weather OK to speak of. Plants were looking good before I was away for 5 days for work. Came back and power was off to the hoop, plants were not watered no fan running. Lost 1947 fair pumpkins that were set on. 209 Schnicker watermelon plant was totally flagged (not watered) Been working on setting more pumpkins on side vines on the 1947 Clements for fair. The melon plant slowly coming back from the almost dead.

Well finally drying out here and both outside AG plants at my place are toast so pulled and planted late sweet corn. Inside hoop we have the 2323 plant that aborted every female on the main vine with pumpkins very distorted. We do have 2 on a 4th side vine and 6 side vine that are just over 12 days and gaining 4 inches. The 1947 Clements pumpkin that is set on a Tertiary vine is gaining 3 inches a day should make a hopefully nice 400-500 pounder for the fair. (So much for a three peat) As soon as my phone transfers some photos I will post a couple pictures.

1947 Clementz set on side vine off a side vine make up for a new main. This plant gave me nothing but misery but now has given me a pretty one but will not get very big. We are hopeful that it could get to 400-500 pounds. It sits at 125 pounds now.

2323 side vine pumpkins set at just at 11 and 12 days old. gaining 4 inches a day. All main fruit aborted and males had zero pollen on them. Fruits are very strange looking and hope to get something going with one of these. The plant is a beast with some of the biggest vines ever just will not produce fruit.

Another day of rain and there is no way I can grow anything competitive outside this year. We do have a couple 200-300 pounders off small plants inside the tunnel. The 2323 could not get anything going over 75 pounds before they aborted or split. Watermelon plants are sitting in water most the time and have lost 3 plants so far. The biggest pumpkin we had at another place was on fire till all the rain and humidity and now has not gained a pound in 2 weeks at around 600 pounds. It was uncovered for a tour when I was not there and they forgot to cover it and the heat index was over 110 degrees. I came back after 5 pm and the pumpkin was so hot to touch and I believe it cooked it.
