what a crap year here. I cant believe that there is still ice in 1/2 the lakes here. the latest I've ever seen ice in the lakes here before is april 10th. anyway I started later just a couple of days ago. but a miscalculation over heated them so I restarted today. so if I beak 500lbs this year I will have done ok. I decided not to waste my 800 neily on such a crap year. so I just wasted a bunch of Jarvis seeds instead lol.

well I have sprouted 1 - 1060 Jarvis (squash) 2 - 874 turner (squmpkin) and 4 - 1455 Jarvis (pumpkin). the 1455 Jarvis is by far the best seed out of the gate that I've ever had. to bad its being planted in my garden.

well a few more have popped roots. 795 turner squash. 2- 1060 Jarvis squash. and a few more 874 turner squmpkins. One I thought was up a few days ago was not doing anything and looked dead. so I tried to pull it to find out it was just growing roots about 5" so replanted. by the way I just hope to get these to field pumpkin size. if I grew field pumpkins they would be the size of decorative gourds here lol

well not filling and direct planting in garden not working ha. first true leafs just opening up about 3" long. 1455 Jarvis in the lead. followed closely by my 874 turner squmpkin. which i'm not sure if I will go with or the Jarvis 1060 squash. as I would like a squash but mine may through squash but chancy to go with it

well I had to cull down to my two which is the 1455 Jarvis on the better side of the garden against my 874 turner on the dark side of the garden. Unless the turner goes green, I have no shot at any prizes this year. right now i'm just at my 3rd leaves starting. it snowed just 2 days ago here.

I know I'm late to the party but its still fun. by the way this year my boy has done 80% of the work so counting these as his. well in 2 days 1455 Jarvis will open at 12'. But the highlight is that my squmpkin is going green. 3 visible fruit all of them a nice medium green with dark ribs second one will open at 12' in 5 days. hope to get a pick up as soon as I can figure out how to post a pick from camera phone.

wow I saw a myth yesterday. blue sky above the leaking grey ceiling. but clouds are back today. yesterday was day 14 and was a terrible 25"c. with a day of sun she wanted to grow and today day 15 29"c. way to late but as long as I can get just one drink at this party I will be happy. squampkin aborted but have the other one looking fair.

day 17 pumpkin 39"c, indeed quit laughable. same with my squampkin day 9 14"c. this squampkin plant has insane vines the size of my wrist and all females cut off have the smallest seed pockets i've ever seen in 20 years growing. I will try this one again next year and baby it properly and hope for a year not from hell.

day 20 pumpkin 57"c. finally cppu initial retarding effect has reversed. (also helps to have 2 sunny days in a row.) in the last 2 days went from 43"c to 57"c or 7"c a day. as for squampkin night time floods has washed away its section of side hill, covering fruit in mud and gravel, still alive but badly beaten up. after this if it gets to 500lbs it will be a miracle

it will be interesting to see who can get a pumpkin to the scales here this year over 800lbs, I say maybe 5. anyway I'm off for a week, so now the sun will come out without a drop of rain guarantee day 23 pumpkin, 71"c with an ott of 161" day 15 squampkin, 32"c with an ott 83"

Wednesday, August 12 View Page
careful not to misquote me Donkin. I said likely only 5 OVER 800lbs. and i'm in cape breton all week, so I could make it one less over 800 in just a minute, lol.

Saturday, August 15 View Page
well that was disappointing pumpkin now after week vacation is only 96"c with 214"ott, squampkin was worse at 52.5"c with 134" ott. squampkin also looks like I over sprayed it with cppu, but I didn't even spray this one???

Tuesday, August 18 View Page
crap! sorry to here of your abort Donkin. I would not truly wish this on you or even my worst enemy.

Thursday, August 20 View Page
pumpkin day 35, 66"fb x 67"ss x 113"c = 246" ott = 334lbs squmpkin day 27, 50"fb x 52"ss x 69"c = 171" ott = 117lbs nothing, even now that I have heat and sun, they just don't want to grow. plus side few aphids and no powder mildew yet. funny the pumpkin looks that I didn't spray it with cppu (I did) but my squmkin looks like I over sprayed it with cppu but I didn't even spray this one.

so last 5 day's pumpkin has been averaging per day 3.4" circumference 6.4" ott 22 lbs squmpkin 3.3" circumference 7.4" ott 12 lbs

wow, the one I had last year. pollinated at the same day was exactly double the size at this date

struggling with this long stretch of high humidity, a few spots on vines a little soft, squmpkin belly button going soft and a few deep splits on her stock into flesh about 1.5" deep. may be a fight to keep this one.

Thursday, August 27 View Page
had to remove belly button, as decay was starting to creep again. had to be cut flushed to pumpkin, but its arse cracks are looking a bit dirty and infected. house is under repairs so not at home and no time to take care of properly so will likely lose my squmpkin.

pumpkin day 42, 133"c or 284"ott or 507lbs. doing about 25lbs a day. squmpkin still alive at day 34, 95"c or 231"ott or 279lbs. doing about 23lbs a day 45 more days of growing left but weather turned cold 2 days ago, on the plus side first pumpkin I ever had at this age with not one age crack yet, cantaloupe, stretch mark. so hope she keeps plugging.

Friday, September 4 View Page
day 50 pumpkin 145"c or 307"ott or 635lbs doing about 1.5"c a day or 3"ott or 10lbs. looking young and solid day 42 squmpkin 98"c or 252"c or 358lbs. looking a little worse for wear.

Tuesday, September 8 View Page
squmpkin has slowed due to its bad split and vine deteriation. now at 102"c or 259.5"ott or 390lbs my pumpkin is doing very good and me and the boy are trying to figure out which one is his and which is mine, lol. 151.5"c or 320"ott or 716lbs. that puts me 81lbs ahead of last year or 6 day's

Friday, September 11 View Page
thought I should do a pre storm growth. pumpkin is 155.5"c or 770lbs. its averaging 1.25"c a day or 18lbs a day

Saturday, September 12 View Page

Sunday, September 13 View Page

Tuesday, September 15 View Page
cool cloudy and wet last 2 days. now only doing 1"c or 16lbs a day. now 86fb 90ss 160c 36ott 824lbs can't believe squampkin hasn't rotted yet but till growing a bit. 82ss 86fb 107c 275ott 461lbs

86.5fb 90ss 161.5c 338ott 838lbs. unacceptable, juicing the hell out of her now. it has an unbreakable shape so not just pushing now, but kicking also.

Saturday, September 19 View Page
well kicking works. my boy is just 1" from having a bigger pumpkin than I ever had. the squmpkin is 84fb 89ss 108c 281ott 491lbs not bad for this one since not kicking. pumpkin 88fb 93ss 163.5c 344.5ott 886lbs starting to grow up now. usually this is the opposite. must be getting back up from the farts and kicks i'm hitting her with, lol.

Monday, September 21 View Page
day 67 now circumference is 165.5". but cold this morning, will likely slow down now. you hope!!!

Thursday, September 24 View Page
the brakes are on and she's screaming to a halt, so time to kick another fart out of her. day 70 89"fb 93.5"ss 168"c 350.5"ott 931lbs. considering that on the 10th of august I was expecting only 600lbs this year then on the sept 10 hoped to match my 345ott personal record. I now hope she makes it to 950lbs.

Sunday, September 27 View Page
hard to measure as fingers are cold. 170"c 94"ss 90"fb 354"ott 959lbs. not sure how accurate this measurement is kind of funny #s in my opinion. I just know its still growing about 9lbs a day. can it ott 1000lbs on a pallet by the 2nd????? I doubt it. if it does chances are it will be 10% light.

Monday, September 28 View Page
just did the math based on results from last year at Waterville, Windsor and results from Waterville this year. So even if my pumpkin goes 1000 pounds this year, I will only take 12th, at Windsor. crap

Wednesday, September 30 View Page
what a plant. it did 400 pounds or 60"ott in September. wish I had it set 2 weeks earlier, I would have given some people concern. just for my quick reference. this is the 1455 Jarvis by the 1813 Northrup, pollinated at 12' on july 16th, plant was 600'sq. very easy plant to grow vines were like rubber (unbreakable) low pest prob (few aphids) and very low disease (little powder mildew just started last week) will be picked at 78 days old and still growing so final ott will have to wait.

Saturday, October 3 View Page
final 88"ss x 94"fb x 172"c = 354"ott = 979lbs but was 1% heavy. final weight 985lbs. this has been my biggest ever, both in ott and actual weight. I expected 13th but got 9th. now the only personal record I have to beat is taking 5th place at Windsor. next year.
