Got my soil sample back today, first time I have ever had one done and it looks like the results are promising but to be honest I am not by any means an expert on how the "result" levels should be in regards to the "guidline" levels. I would really appreciate any input and advice. giantsquash@gmail.com thanks, owen

I want to thank Team Pumpkin for their quick technical assessment of my sample and the detailed approach on how to correct my magnesium levels to get them in balance with my calcium and potassium. This is a new world for me, I can't even spell half this stuff.

I also want to thank a German grower (you know who you are) for his assistance in translating the items I need and giving me pointers on where I can find them.

Late spring had one last pumpkin plant as backup left, asked wife if she had a spot for it, with evil laugh she said sure between my flowers. I said challenge excepted, plant and flowers only have 270 sq ft. young plant, soil for AG not prepared, lots of fun. BTW the pumpkin gets more looks then her flowers ;)

One either loves the posts that have nothing to do with growing our giants or one doesn't. I don't, and I think it is a waste of space on Ken's server, I also think that it displays a humor that the new growers will think is typical. I would rather see growers with a honest fever to grow a big one. Oh well.

Helped a friend weigh his pumpkins today (I have a crane scale for up to 1100 lbs) he has a Autumn fest each year at his farm, 2 of them weighed 880, 883 lbs the other 5 between 500 and 775. What a fun day.

This pumpkin split at about day 20, I wanted to see what would happen so I left it on the vine, it was an outside plant, no greenhouse. It continued to grow and scarred over all by it's self. Not big, about 150 lbs, but completely healthy, had been off the vine over 2 weeks now and still completely healthy. My assumption is that per the GPC rules it would be deemed DMG, a completely healthy AG.

After a couple of days to think about things it is obvious to me that I still have a competitive bone in my body. So, two tons of worm humus for patch prep 2016, never started this early, goal is clear, heaviest non GPC pumpkin 2016.

What have I learned? - Final decisions are not final - The stem is not part of the pumpkin - Pumpkins without soft spots are damaged - You will be blamed by others because they cannot understand their decisions are flawed - Pictures of past mistakes will be ignored What should I have learned? - Final decisions should be uphold - Healed stem splits are fine - Pumpkins that have healed soft spots are fine - Others will see the error of their decisions - You will not be blamed for being a whistle blower - Pictures don’t lie
