Squash is growing good. I'm learning as I go, never tried to grow a plant over winter.

Still learning how to grow the plant in my basement. Not the greatest set up, but it is working for now. I never expected the squash seed to germinate. Squash plant is roughly 8ft long. I was having issues with the leaves, flowers, and squash. After talking with Mark Shymanski, made some adjustments to my lighting, seemed to work for now. Am looking at HID and HPS lights to replace the grow lights I am using. Lighting is crucial for growing inside !! It needs to be right to get the full spectrum.

Also a side note.... Plant is potted in a 20 gallon tub, with 5 gallon buckets every foot or so. Picture was taken before I added more buckets. Using Pro Mix Ultra Organic for the soil.

This is my squash plant. It's at 9ft long. Plus, this is the set up I had with my lights. I'm growing this in my basement now. I have a secondary vine growing as well, at 5ft long.

These are the lights I'm switching to. Not enough lighting with the CFL's I was using. These are 400 watt Metal Halide fixtures. I'm using PlantMax 360 watt High Pressure Sodium conversion bulbs, these are the only type of bulb that can be run in Halide fixtures, "conversion bulb". 50,000 lumens and rated at 2000 kelvins.

Picture is with 1 fixture set up, going to use 2 fixtures over the plant. I'm not going to let the plant get much bigger. The fixtures had heavy glass globes, which I removed, light being lost from sides of globes. I used foil around fixture framing to get all the light I can to plant.

Pollinated first squash at 8ft 2in. It was a 5 lobe squash. Will have to wait and see if it takes.

Picture of final set up with lights. (2)400 watt fixtures. White sheet is being used to reflect light back to plant.

Wasn't going to grow this year. Decided to grow a Halloween pumpkin for my grandson. Seed germinated last week of June, planted outside July 5th. Beast of a plant for it's age, roughly 300-360sq ft. Great plant.

Pollinated August 9th, so 22 days old. No measurement, but 5 gallon bucket is for comparison. Growing like crazy. all vine terminated already.

Also, lost stump in last week of July, lots of rain here caused the issues. Will grow this seed next year, as I will be growing again. 2 yrs was enough time off, LOL.......

Day 41 for pumpkin. No measurement, would say about 400 - 500#, maybe more...... Plant was planted July 5th, very healthy still, no issues. Lost stump end of July. Plant is amazing for how late it was planted and no stump, pumpkin growing like a beast.

Front shot. Pumpkin measured 438#, went a little heavy, 472#. For the short time it grew and no stump since July, I think it was pretty good.

Got one of my immature squash seeds to germinate. I guess another winter project. Used peroxide, seaweed, potassium nitrate, and glutamine (amino acid). Put in seed chamber at 82 degrees, germinated in 4days. Will try to grow this out to set a squash, and will take side vines and hydroponically clone them.

Squash plant coming along. A little stressed. I was going to use my HPS lights, but decided to go a different route. Purchased some 400 watt MH bulbs with a rating of 7200K/ Sky Blue. Will switch to my HPS lights at a later time, trying to get better plant growth. Learning as I go !!
