Well, it's time to start this pumpkin stuff again! Started some seeds a week ago, some of them 7 years old, and am amazed how some of them are growing! Thanks to Joe Jensen for sending me seeds last year, I may have a Jensen/Jensen cross this year.

Haven't had time for pictures, want to clean the weeds away from the plants first. Bad year for pigweeds. BUT, I pollinated an 804 Kurilich yesterday with a 1083 Jensen. Hopefully it took.

I was going to decide on two plants, but I kept three. Very crowded where I have them, but they seem to be doing well. I have one pumpkin on a 1083 Jensen, that has a bulging blossom end. My kids think it looks like a babboons butt. Would this be a problem later? Will post some pics when I get a chance.

Looking back at my notes, here are my crosses on what I have growing: 1083 Jensen female x 1068 Foss, this one has the abnormal blossom end. Pumpkin is tear drop shaped, with a narrow stem end, and a big blossom end. Weird looking. Pollinated July 11. 1068 Foss female x 1083 Jensen pollinated July 5th. Big and impressive thus far. I have to find time to cut some anchor roots to relieve stress on the stem. The last is an 804 Kurilich female x 1083 Jensen. Wonderful shape, growing fast, and already a pretty color. Should be a nice orange when it is fully mature. Plants are growing into each other, and are overtaking my corn, peppers, tomatoes, and cukes. Too busy with wheat harvest to find time to trim everything back.

This is our Babboon pumpkin. Weird shape, and the blossom end looks like some sort of hernia. Will these defects cause it to break?

A closer look. Hard to measure with the odd shape, but total was 167" for 109 lbs. Pretty sure it is not accurate.

804 Kurilich. My 6-year-old helper named her "Araya". Not sure where that name came from. Nice and orange. 161" for 99 lbs. Best colored AG I have ever grown.
