Winter has been dry and mild for the most part this year so I took the opportunity to expand my patch. With some help from Vineman and his tractor (thanks buddy) we ripped out 4 fruit trees and dug down 12 to 18 inches.

26 yards of compost, 400 pounds of qypsum, 50 pounds of kelp meal, about 10 pounds of humic acid and it was finished. I have a rye grass cover crop that is just now coming up.

I grew my first "big" pumpkin here in 2008 off a 991 Urena. 1214 Pingrey came in 5th plane at Elk Grove. Growing a 991 again this year in the same spot because it obviously can go much bigger than 1200 pounds.

When I finished my patch addition in mid January I was not sure there was enough time to grow much of a cover crop. I'm happy the rye grass is filling in so well.

My 2012 set-up in the main patch. Expanded to handle 6 plants with 2 additional plants being grown on either side of what you see in this picture. All my plants are in there hoop houses and look good. This years line up is 1495 Stelts, 1634 Werner, 1303 Sweet, 991 Urena, 1622 Young, 1504 Pingrey, and two 1409 Miller. One was started early for a September weigh-off. Good luck everyone!!!
