well I feel like starting so here it goes with this years growers.
1002 jarvis for squash
239 leonard and 260.5 Clementz for watermelon
1794 Pugh pumpkin
this last pick is what I think is going to surprise everyone
a 380 turner. This is a 1041.5 Mckei x 1140 Stevens which due to being ripped off by a landscaper which ruined my patch last year and caused me to put no effort in growing
this fruit other than ensuring this proper cross which I know will have high bred vigor due to no common back ground for at least 3 generations back.
Also this was a cross that will grow big fast with shallow ribs no concave blossum end no dill rings, splitting and a bit heavey to chart.
If anyone whats this seed no bubble pack required instead 5.00 per seed, unless you have sent me seeds in the past I will send one for free if wanted. None will want this seed yet though. But keep watching this diary and maybe lookajooks, he likes the cross as well.
If this seed ott a 1000lbs the price goes to 10.00 per seed
if ott hits 1200lbs the price goes to 15.00 per seed
if ott hits 1400lbs the price goes to 20.00 per seed
if ott hits 1500lbs the price goes to 25.00 per seed
1600lbs ott = 30.00 per seed
if it goes 10% heavey add 5.00 to price.
if it goes 20% heavey add 15.00 to price.
anything above these # will have to be revisited on pricing.
This money will all go to the Kodi education fund.

First the nerds will self 239 leonard & 260.5 Clementz.
Then the tramp 1002 jarvis x 1794 pugh, then reversed, then the 1002 with my 380 turner. See what a tramp lol.

all in.
Here is a quick break down of my potential this year. Seed is capable in my opinion of 1800lbs. - 25% due to not a full day of sun in my garden. - 25% for lack of soil over rocks -0% tempratures as poor start temp but better finish temps by the water. -10% not enough time to look after properly. + 25% for a few tricks and Juices learned over the years. + 5% for new soil added. with a final wieght of 1196 lbs

wow I planted back up clemntz watermelon and they are clear of the soil after only 54 hrs from the start of hydration. also I have a 1002 jarvis showing and will be clear of the soil by 36 hrs from hydration. My average for pumpkin seeds is 120 hrs from hydration to clear of the soil. So any other maritimer's thinking of competing against me in squash this year might as well put pumpkins in your squash spots just to save embarrassment! lol

Culled spare 380 Turner as they were getting to close.
Planted sunflowers today. to early or late? tilled up garden near plants. it's nice to start getting excited about growing again. After last year I lost most of my joy in growing. But with best spring I can remeber I'm getting excited. But everyone here is getting the same spring. So instead of 1200lbs to get in the top 3 here, one will need 1300lbs to crack top 3 likely. I doudt I can do 1300lbs this year, but 1200lbs a strong mayby.

last 2 weeks have been cold and grey. Shame as I had a better than average start but now just par for the course. side note my boy took my 380 spare turner that I cut off at the stump and just stuck the end in the ground not even covering a leaf node and it's growing, wow. Also my turner (keeper) is about 5' now and already has 6 females. twins on the main and 4 on different side vines. Lets hope my tricks out weigh my disadvantages here. 1002 jarvis is starting to come alive despite cold and grey likely over 3' and 2 females on it, but the vine thickness is incredible over 2" thick. pugh is suffering out of it's green house as I had a bad hurricane lantern that would start burning foul in the middle of the night (2nd time)so I clean suet off of leaves but have no more plastic to replace on the green house. amazing what a difference just a few degrees over a few day's makes. was ahead of jarvis, now behind.

removed 3 females off main 380 turner, count at 24 now. 2 of which were sterile as no seeds when I cross sectioned.
the best i've done in this garden was 841 lbs set on July 15 @ 17' deadhead main. So to beat I have 25 day's to set.
This takes the pressure off looking at my own garden. looking at others from ideal growing locations is disheartening as not a fair comparison and I unlike some will not move just to grow a better pumpkin. I would if I was rich though lol.

So I'm just perfecting my technics here, but look out if I ever move back to my farm.

Well I have had 1 male on the turner and one on the pugh both with no stamens. but the females that I've let blossom look viable, here's hoping.
took another 7 females off the turner count at 108 removed now.
in previous picks you can see me training the vines for the upcoming keepers but the jarvis and turner plants told me to piss off and went back straight and ridged. once I set on these I will have to deadhead.
the pugh though is now at about a 300 degree angle and looking good for take off.

the foam is in 2" thicknesses. I will add one more when it blooms then remove them one by one as needed keeping it level until it is on the puck board (very slippery stuff) This should let me keep most of my tap roots near the fruit. As well it should slide nicely as it grows to help prevent nose dives or concave bottom. the fruit I figure will be at lest 3' tall even before the vine wants to lift the vine. And since I grow on a side hill I might as well get gravity to help as much as possible to get the sap to the fruit.

here`s my boy Kodi learning to pollinate. He`s been a real help this year and I will have to give him one of these plants. He wants the Pugh but I want to make sure it`s pollinated for sure before I tell him it`s his. as you can see there appears to be a better one behind his hand and it was the one I wanted but it had seeds in the blossom. the one pollinated is a longer shape which I like but I will differently have to terminate the vine once I know it is caught.

j19 41 44 58 143 p22 52.5 55 77.5 185 w149 18g
As there have been a few interested in the 380 turner seeds, I would like to let people know that it is being grown in much than less ideal conditions. This is the worst part of the garden because of the light and hill/slope. It is on a double slope 30 degrees top to bottom and 45 degree from one half of it`s side. It`s in between apartment building so the sun does not hit it until 11:00 then is off by 5:00.
When it came time to set the fruit, 2 blossomed at the same time with the good one that I had planed to go with having seeds in the blossom. So due to time of year I was forced to go with the other smaller blossom that was growing under the vine and scared. This forcing me to cut off the main and just recently the nearest side vine. Soil is only 1` deep over boulders. Its grown near the ocean so cold temp conditions. Which means my plant is still only 400`sq. Soil was toxic last year with phosphorous, boron, aluminum, and the ph was high. To correct I simply added a tandem truck load of lawn soil to dilute then added 1/2 a bag of 60-0-0 and 1/2 a bag of 0-0-60 and hoped for the best as no soil test done. Which may be showing in my growth now. As things should start to fly now but are a little slow but that could be just from all the rain and cloud lately.

Last night I was finally able to get some fertilizer on. Also as yesterday was the last day I was able to budge the pugh forward, I put a little more sand under the front to give a better supporting angle for its nose, so ott for it is now guessed based off circumfrence so likely wrong.

just when the pumpkins are about to shift gears cload and rain come and with limited day light to begin with it's killing me, well just depressing me. But on the plus side slow groth at this stage usually make them go over chart. so if i go 100% heavey i may hit 1000. sob ;(

day 40 for 380 turner 129" c 80" fb 81.5" ss = 290.5" ott = 548 lbs now that the sun is lower on the south horizon 20% of this plant gets no sun at all. so now the pugh is pulling away but I do have no ribs or dill rings on this one like i wanted but it is missing it's nose but on another experiment turner plant the nose is very visible after just 10 day's.

Just wanted a pic of vine set up. Main in and out to the left and side out to the right. Also were the end of the 26 once bottle is, that is how far in the blossom is in. So front should be solid form their forward. The material the pumpkin is sitting on is 4' wide. I doubt she will tape out more than 331" by the end. That was the biggest out of this garden. But I'm hoping that it will beat the % heavy out of this garden of 17% which will give me a new best out of this garden and possible new personal best if it tapes 326" and goes 18% heavy for 904 lbs. But I doubt it will do it. Then again that is only less than 2 lbs a day on the tape.

did my thump test. Squash makes no sound when struck hard with my fist, not even a thump (good?). But the pumpkin when flicked once with my finger goes ratatatat cling (bad?). Although last time I thumped my fruit I thought they were both going light but got 10 and 17% heavey. So who knows.

today I get ready to load my chihuahua's to go to the great Dane show. to bad I could not morph my pumpkin with my squash, as 1526 lbs is a respectable pumpkin or a great squash. either way I may take home 100.00 if I'm lucky but for sure I will get 50.00 which will pay for the gas to get there and nothing else.
