Haven't had a lot of time to contribute to the diary this year. A cold spring really put things behind for my garden and agriculture in the are in general. I originally started out with one of pumpkinpals seeds and a 1362 Poirer. Something took down Erics plant at about the third leaf, and I selfed the 1362 July 27th. Way behind the last two years. Right now the fruit is estimated around 150 lbs, and the cold weather has kept it growing slow. I had some disease pressure twice this year, but knocked it out with fungicide. From then, I just let the plant grow wild, with no pattern and really no maintenace for burying the vines.

One reason for the low work ethic in the garden was time this year, I didn't have much of it. Right before harvest started here, my oldest daughter Emily fell seven feet off of an old playground slide, and broke and dislocated her elbow. We ended up in St. Paul MN at the Gillettes Childrens Hospital for surgery. Fantastic Hospital, and a great staff did a wonderful job on her arm. We were very worried and sick about the whole thing, until we seen the other children in the ward. They work a lot with kids with Cerebal Palsy and help them use their hands and feet more. Emily's broken arm was very minor compared to the other children there. The parents we met during our stay were all fantastic and strong people. I admire their courage and strength, not to mention being great parents to some children with some serious disabilities. I will have no problem in the future making charitable donations to that hospital, and I am happy we had such great care there. Pictures to follow this weekend.

Harvested the pumpkin today due to no growth for the last eight days. It is now the 262 Ketelsen 08 (1362 Poirier x self) There are no holes or cracks in it, none that penetrate into the cavity, but I am wondering if it will keep until Halloween? Someone drop me a line herbie@polarcomm.com

This is uow weight, but it was weighed on a state certified bulk chemical scale. It taped around 244 lbs est, so it did go a little heavy, about 7%.
