1502wallace. Unlike the former years i did'nt make a big planting-hole this season. This plant is growing faster than any i ever had. Could be the high temps maybe... Not to hot during the days till now(no heat-stress), but very warm nights during all season till now.

This one was pollinated on 6/14. 1502wallace * self. Normally this will not be a keeper. It's only 11ft. out, but the next one is 15ft. out. After the one at 15ft. there is no other yet, so it will be one of those two.

Friday, June 15 View Page
This will have to be the fruit on the 1502.It's the only female in the optimal pollination zone. The stem and the angle to the vine are good.I expect it will open in two or three days.

Saturday, June 23 View Page
I usually put a piece of root-fabric(7ft.*7ft.) with playsand on it under my pumpkins. It prevents rodents from digging up under the fruit.I also put it partially under the main vine, so i do't have to cut roots all the time to keep the main loose.

I threated it with captan, and i will put a fan on it tomorrow.Rain is pouring down today and i don't want to mess with electric wires till it's a little dry. Pumpkin gained 26lbs.(12kg) last 24 hours. That's good but not so extreme much.Hope i can keep her, but it's looking bad.

This is how my plants begin to look when they get a bit older.I had this also in former years, except for last year.I grow in tunnel greenhouses, and i thought it was caused by too fresh compost or salts in bottom, combined with insuffient venting. Also it 's always in the heart of the plant(oldest leaves)it appears first.Last week i found out it is caused by spidermites. They love dry and hot conditions (greenhouse). They are there all the time and everywhere on the plant, but they're to little to see them. You only know they're there by seeing the effect on the leaves. That's why you start to see it on the oldest leaves. Anyway, i sprayed against them, and will spray again in 8 days for those that will be born by than out of the eggs. But it's not easy on such big plants , as you have to spray under the leaves too. Next years i will be earlier to take care of them.
