Here it is... Plastic will come tomorrow, too windy today.Lenght is 20 meter or 66ft.wide: 6 meter or 20ft.High enough to work easily in it. It will house two plants.

Wednesday, April 27 View Page
Here's an overview of the patch. Big greenhouse in front will permanetly house two plants , the other one will house 4 plants till they're outgrowing it.At that moment, plastic at the backside wil be removed. So the stumps will grow inside, the pumpkins(hopefully!)outside.

Saturday, April 30 View Page
Seeds went in today. Direct seeded 650verstappen seeds + 917ghaye seeds. 996bobbier ,838pukos and 895.5hester in pots. 582hester and 1458witthier went to Luc Bex who will try to germinate them for me.

Plenty of room inside. Easy to work in! Sides + two doors on the heads can be opened in case of hot weather. Plastic is burried a little in , so no critters can enter.Seeds are in ,we're ready to go!

Seeds for the fieldpumpkins went into peat-pots yesterday (may 3).135 jack'o lanterns,+-20bluepumpkin seeds and 18goliath pumpkin seeds. I will also plant some 20 squash-plants for selling this year. The big yellow and the red pumpkins i'll buy as little plants next week.About 500 plants will be planted after last frost-date(may 15).

Wednesday, May 4 View Page
Great news. The direct-seeded 917ghaye seeds are popping up! Those are not ment to grow with, unless my 1458 or 582 don't germinate. Hope the other seeds will pop up too. Those in the pots i took into the house this evening ,due to the cold temperatures (10°C)outside,and probably a rather cold night in the greenhouse too.

Tuesday, May 24 View Page
Transplanted 1458whittier today.Unlike the rest of my plants this plant will not be grown in a greenhouse.Seed from the biggest pumpkin ever grown...maybe a hot summer here... who knows ? His mom,the 582hester is planted in my greenhouse.

Thursday, May 26 View Page
Finally summer.Greenhouses wide open from early in the morning till late in the evening.I have some problems keeping temperature moderate in the big greenhouse in front.(went up to 48°C,only 37°C in the other greenhouse). Could be the part of the plastic burried in,witch makes i can't open it all to the ground. If hot weather continues i will have to remove it.Plants still looking good, though.

Warmest may27 ever here in belgium. 33°C outside, up to 42°and 50° in greenhouses .As you can see i took the plastic walls down this morning, but all of my plants suffer from the heath. hope the will recover. 582hester looking the strongest right now.

Still can't believe i did this yesterday.I spent all day to build fences to keep my dogs, little kids, rabbits and anything that could hurt my plants out of the patch... Than i broke the main vine of my best growing plant, while installing driphoses. I allready emailed Martin (Reiss) and he thinks that the best i can do is cut the main vine and use the back main.If anyone has an idea, email me please!!!.

What's wrong with this leave of my 996bobbier plant? The bigger leaves are dark green. All the new leaves from the last couple of days look like this one.

Tuesday, June 7 View Page
Added a mulch(compost) to some of my plants. I don't see any disadvantages in mulching, except that it keeps the soil cooler, and pumpkin roots like heath. But i can't imagine that soil temperature could be to low in my greenhouse.Advantages: Weed control, and less soil compaction.

Thursday, June 9 View Page
Greenhouse closed for a cold night here in Belgium (about 3°C).Watering system running. Gave a 20-20-20 drench, and i sprayed baythroid, bayfidan and foliar feed.

Greenhouse nr.2 : plant 1 :895.5hester,2 :917ghaye 3 :650verstappen,4 : 838pukos.All doing well.Added a thick mulch of compost to avoid soil compaction as i have to walk there every day to take care of the plants.Cold outside , no higher than 15°C today, and warning for night-frost.

Finally a day were i found time to work in the patch.Pruned, did some vine burying, weeding and trimming. At 9pm sprayed with insecticide, fungicide and foliar feed.Gave a last shot of 20-20-20.Next time it will be 13-40-13 for the flowers and fruit setting.Day 11 of heath wave.29° C today.A little better than the 30° to 34°from last week. After all,the leave burning is not too bad. Plants still look pretty green.Week 7 of no rain.I hope my tanks will be filled when i get the fruits going on,cause i will need a lot of water for my 6 plants at that time!Picture shows the 4 plants that are grown half inside, half outside greenhouse.

Friday, July 1 View Page
Had a free day to work in the patch today.Last hand was layed on the fence around the part out of the greenhouse.Placed the weed-control (picture) in the area were the pumpkins should come.No mouse can get trough it, it keeps the weeds away, and it prevents the plants from anchoring to close to the fruit. It's 7ft wide, and goes from 12ft till 19ft from stumps. If necessary i still can cut it in peaces from 7ft*7ft,and adjust it under the particular fruits.

Friday, July 1 View Page
I also layed the last hand on irrigation system.Last 3 days of rain allowed me to collect 14000 litres of water.Did some pruning and vine-burying on 582,996 and 1458.

Pollinated 895.5hester*self today.Female flower on 917ghaye is in ziploc, and will be pollinated tomorrow.I will follow Martin's(Reiss) advice and use the 1458 as male pollinator for most of my pumpkins.

Disaster in the patch this morning. This is the main vine of my 1458whittier.Believe it or not ,but this was the third!!! plant this morning i found with the MV broken of.Is it under his own weight,or the tendrils that tear it in two peaces?

Sunday, July 3 View Page
This the 582hester(mv). This one was broken by the tendrills twisted around some bamboosticks. The 582 was 1 of my 2 favorite plants.

996bobbier.I think all of my plants got an O.D. of nitrogen, due to the huge amount of manure i added, and to the ferts i'm giving them. I think the last shot of 20-20-20 was 1 too much. 4of 7 plants MV,broke off , because they are growing straight up into the air, instead of growing on the ground.Gonna try to support 3 remaining plants. But how am i going to get them down? Anyone any idea? Email me please.
