We grow our long gourds up scafolding. We put 2'x 12" boards down so that it doesn't sink into the ground. We put black landscape fabric down under the scafolding to control the weeds. There are metal grates on top for the goards to grow across. It measures 160" high.

When we pulled up the walking boards we found a few cracks in the soil. This happens every year. Last year my grandson got his foot stuck in the crack. Darn heavy clay soil.
