Went to Barnesville yesterday. I placed #4 with a 1336# pumpkin. It also won the Howard Dill award. First time in four years of growing I had pumpkin make it to a weigh off. Growing one plant a year most years doesn't help.
Her it is on 9/17. It was still gaining 5# a day at 89 dap. The back was damaged by sparrows when it was about ten days old. I had spider mites and the bird pecked the leafs to eat them and in turn the pumpkin and the next one in half. So if the birds are eating your leafs spray for mites.
Here is the only other one I took to a weigh off in 2012. It weighed 846 but was ruled damaged. The woman in the picture is my late Grandmother, Marion Ball.
