Only 214lbs more chris. Just need it to rain more then 2 or 3 times. Worst drought in years. Will the dust bowl be back in 2013? http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/31/drought-likely-to-continu_n_2388085.html

I found the best book. Of how not to do it.

One of the best things about growing pumpkins. Is MAAAILLL. But not when its oozing out of the mailbox and allover the mail. Had to laugh as I wiped out the mailbox, and though just how lucky the post office and their other packages are that it wasn't fish fertilizer.

This is what you do when everyone is in Vegas, Thanks for the pic's Chris looks like fun! Sure is quite around here. Time to get comfortable with germing. I wanted to see the deference of filing or not filing, in germinating time. I like to use dry seed starting mix.
Saturday, February 23 View Page
Normally I would just cover the tops of the seeds. But what fun is normal. The group on the left has been sanded, the right was not. I soaked them for 30 min, then placed them like you see. Then I added 5 mil of water over each seed.( that about 15 drops) Covered the container. I used a cheap seed mat that should get the soil around 80 deg, along with T5 lights. Here the seed mat used. (great price) http://www.menards.com/main/lawn-garden/seeds-bulbs/10x20-propagation-heating-mat/p-1730057-c-10125.htm
Sunday, February 24 View Page
24 hours at 78 degrees, both filed and not filed seeds are showing there tap root. Surprised to see one of the seed coats opening. I added 5mils more water to each seed. I'll give them one more day to be sure they germinate, and the tap is 1/2 1" long.
Monday, February 25 View Page
Every one germinated same time, no deference whether filed or not. The two rows on the left are the unfiled ones. Now they will be safe from drowning. At this point I would carefully put the seed in moist soil and cover it back up. Now I want to see if filing help them shed the seed coat. (bet it does, one was all ready opening)
Monday, February 25 View Page
Carefully put the seed in the hole. I was a little rougher then normal. Guess I'll see if I hurt any. Unplugged the heat mat, don't need it anymore. I use T 5 grow lights.
Wednesday, February 27 View Page
oops! don't forget the fan. Unless you want to cook them. got over 100 degrees.
Thursday, February 28 View Page
And there off, most of the filed seeds are opening.
Friday, March 1 View Page
Some open at the same time. There's a very, very small advantage to filing if any. Going off this test.
Saturday, March 2 View Page
No real difference. between filed and not. no problem getting out of there seed coats.
Saturday, March 2 View Page
every one happy and healthy. Until I yanked them out, hee hee. But I'll still be filing. Not trying to change the world. No reason to over think this germing thing. K.I.S.S

Sunday, March 24 View Page
5 hours and $10 and a new use for my old water barrel. I had all winter to do this. Nothing like a little warm weather to get your drive going.
Sunday, March 24 View Page
Oh ya, 2 more inches of snow. Hopefully the last for the year?
Tuesday, March 26 View Page
I'm trying a few experimental tomato buckets. Using fiber pots. Its the new big thing, they say its the best way to grow in a pot, the idea is that instead of the roots wrapping around the bucket they will be air pruned. Can't see it making a big difference. I'm betting that it would be harder on the plant. We'll see. I still putting them in a buckets to keep them from blowing over and braking the root ball when I move them. That was the big problem with plastic grow bags.
Tuesday, March 26 View Page
I used this earth bucket last year. There was no difference with performance with just using a a regular bucket. But I used a timer to water 2 and 3 times a day. So it would be very useful for someone who could only water once a day.
Sunday, March 31 View Page
Why not try to believe what do have to lose. If you don't like it I'll refund your misery.

Snow Its not suppose to snow in April! No four letter words Chris.lol. I was thinking I should of waited another week to of put out the tomatoes. I was expecting freezing temps at nights. I would just put them in the shed with a heater. Now its will be freezing temps for 3 more days. I had to get the lights out there.
Saturday, April 13 View Page

Thursday, April 18 View Page
I wonder if it works under the fingernails:)
Thursday, April 18 View Page
Note to self: This is how big herbs get in just over 2 months
Thursday, April 18 View Page
This is what tomatoes look like after 2 months when its cold and snowy most of the time. And they have to get stuck in the shed. I think I should turn the temp up from 50 to 60, oh well:(
Thursday, April 18 View Page
I also should of made some kin houses. The plan is to put them out on the last frost date which is may 15. This will probably be the first year I didn't plant every thing early. I'm getting really antsy. I don't want to start them to soon.
Thursday, April 18 View Page
It was freaking cold today!!! Forecast: crappy today, crappy tomorrow, next week just expect crap.
Saturday, April 20 View Page
Happy 4/20
Sunday, April 21 View Page
70 degrees today. Yippy! Got the water lines clean out. And the pump and timer working, good no money to fix stuff. I hope to get the to tree stump this fall. I cut down my money tree.lol.
Sunday, April 21 View Page
to many cold days for the winter rye.
Sunday, April 21 View Page
Here's my idea (it may have already been done). For shipping seeds. I wanted to try some tests to see if they could be shipped in a regular envelope with one stamp! Safely. Or at least it would stop the post office's seed smasher from Killing Seeds! The ring one the left is a pluming slip ring, too expensive. The right is a pvc piece, cut 1/4. The pvc anyone could make for next to nothing. I bet you could drive a car over it. Feel free to steal the idea and use and or improve on it. It would be happy if we could save those poor baby's from the masher.
Tuesday, April 23 View Page
Is it spring yet?
Tuesday, April 23 View Page
Soaked some seeds today. They look like they enjoyed themselves. Until one made bubbles.
Saturday, April 27 View Page
I think I was sold regular rye grass. they put winter rye on the label. Its finally starting to grow with the three 60 degree's days. A lot slower then an other batch I had in the fall. Oh well, at least I don't have to mow:) I changed the sprinkler head to 5' apart instead of 6' Looks like I'm getting better coverage. Plus if the plant blocks a sprayer I hope not to get dry spots.
Tuesday, April 30 View Page
YOU GOT TO FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!

1775 Starr is not looking pretty. I think there just a imbalance for amendments in her spot. One being to much nitrogen. The secondary would grow straight up. 3 of the secondary's was brittle and broke easily now I have to do some rearranging to fill in. it must be a tasty plant some bugs liked it. Some sun damage, some bird damage. there for a while all the birds would have a block party in my patch. They seemed to move on now.

Back to overhead sprinklers. I should of switched to drip tape. Dan's sprinkler system SUCKS at getting an even watering. some areas become bone dry while others become a soaked mud puddle,
Sunday, July 7 View Page
1775 had 4 of these grabby things on one node, weird
Sunday, July 7 View Page
1775 is cursed:) I pollinated the prefect flower in the perfect spot. Then I went to cut the leaf off, and sliced a perfect slice off of the stem. All the months of planing screwed up in a nano second.
Sunday, July 7 View Page
I'm not sold on the fiber pots and the hole idea of air pruning. I think its use another product someone made. Then made up the reason why they work better then everything else.
Sunday, July 7 View Page
This is disturbing. 1544 has a secondary that is yellowing. started 3 leaves back from the main. The vine is getting soft. I didn't see a SVB. Can someone tell me what they think.... Don't say yellow vine disease.....Don't say yellow vine disease (fingers crossed)
Sunday, July 7 View Page

Thursday, July 11 View Page

Thursday, July 11 View Page
