My first entry of the 2015 season. My plants went in the greenhouses last night. My line up for this year is the 1900 Watson, 1870 Lieber, 1843 Geddes and the 2008 Neptune. I have 4 quality back-ups started as well. I tilled 10 pounds of mycorrhiza into my 4000 square foot patch about two weeks ago and planted winter rye. The winter rye is starting to fill in nicely. The plan is to till the rye in a couple weeks ahead of the plants as they grow.

I finally culled out my backups that were growing side by side with the keepers. In the end, the four plants I initially intended to grow were the ones I kept. This is the 2008 Neptune and the 1900 Watson. The 2008 is the one in the front.

Cucumber beetles have arrived in my patch. None found on the pumpkin plants, I assume due to using Merit, but plenty on my cucumber and squash plants.

This beauty opened up yesterday on the Watson plant. It was only at 8 feet out, so it was removed. Both the 1870 & 1843 have pumpkins at 12 feet that should be ready to pollinate by this weekend. The 2008 and 1900 are a few days behind the other two.

I pollinated a female on the main of the 1870 at 12 feet on June 20. This morning,6/22, I pollinated females on the 1900 and 1843, both at about 12 feet. The blossom on the 1900 was a little deformed. Saw my first female SVB while in the patch on Saturday, nothing in the trap yet.

The 1900 Watson at 15 days. I like the shape.

1843 Geddes at 16 days. I removed one earlier in the week that was about 5 days older as it was already developing a couple deep stem splits. This one seems to be growing nicely. All the other females and all the males have now been removed.

The 1870 at day 22. About 120 pounds.

The 2008 Neptune has been a huge disappointment. I had set a couple pumpkins on the main that just didn't seem to want to grow and then the main developed a split at about 15 feet out and the main vine has stopped growing beyond that. I pollinated three females on side vines this morning hoping to get something out of this plant. If none of those take, I'll probably just pull the plant.

Last night I removed the 2008 Neptune Plant. After doing a little research and a closer inspection of the plant, I believe the plant had some type of virus. The plant wasn't producing anything anyway.
