I'll start this year's diary off with the soil report from last fall. Salinity, pH and Potassium levels were of concern. The only fall amendment was liquid gypsum.

We are trying to get the garden in line with Ca, Mn, Mg, B, Zn and N. The garden is tilled and ready except for some needed repairs on the overhead misters. Shade cloth will be added later as the sun climbs higher, I think putting it up too early last year stunted the early growth.
In order to get ahead of our hot July and August we started the seeds on Sunday 3/31. Today, four seedlings were tall enough to move to larger containers. We will only grow two pumpkins in the pumpkin garden this year, our own 640 and our last 1409.5 Miller. We also started one of our 640's and a 562 Renninger for a friend that won our local fair last year. In addition we will start two plants for a new grower and put two watermelon and two of our own seeds in the vegi garden.
The gardens might have a tough summer as our time is going to be spread thin this year.
Good luck everyone.

Plants went in the ground yesterday. Our own 640DMG and a 1409.5 Miller are the only two in the main kin garden. We will also plant some in the main garden for numbers, not size. We are giving plants away to others to try to get them into the hobby.

Yesterday afternoon all was good in the garden but this morning I had some leaves and secondaries either chewed through or broken. Any ideas? Ground squirrels have been a problem in the past, I didn't notice any foot prints from the nephews and it wasn't that windy yesterday.
