I think this is squash mosaic virus. Is it?
Thursday, August 26 View Page
I picked my first ag on 8/22/10. To put it lightly, I will be making many changes next year. My cc watermelons are attempting to grow more melons so maybe I'll actually pick a ripe one this year.
Sunday, August 29 View Page
First attempt at growing an ag. It was set to close to the stump and quit growing at around 40 days. It's only 33.2 pounds but beat my pb and is nice looking.
Sunday, August 29 View Page
Forgot to mention the pumpkin went about 20% light.
Sunday, August 29 View Page
My remaining pumpkin. It is 44 days old and should break my pb once it's picked. It has a measurement of 122 ott and is still growing. I'm worried about its shape.

The cc's are trying to set melons again after the first two were lost to rot.

D50? 128" OTT The other plant will have a pumpkin to pollinate in a few days which is incredible considering there's barely any plant left and the plant has squash mosaic virus. It's on a secondary 10ft out or so, but is in a bad spot. If it sets,it will still have plenty of time to grow.

2 days after pollination. Not sure if it set yet. 13" ott

It seems to be done growing. It's getting a more orange. It's at day 56 and I'll probably pick it sometime within the next two weeks.

My Musa velutina in happier days. They now look terrible after being fried by the sun.

The plant looked very healthy back then. Now the new foliage is distorted due to smv and the plant has lost quite a few leaves.

A shot of this pumpkin on 7/17(D16) shortly after it stopped growing.

Pumpkin on 7/17(D16). Proof that very small ag can still have bad vine positioning.

On 7/20(D19)it felt soft and was beginning to rot on the bottom. Only weighed 3-5 lbs or so.

the pumpkin is too close to the vine there but it's not nearly as bad as it was with my previous pumpkin.

A gopher has eaten into my little ag. RIP
Saturday, September 25 View Page
It severed the main vine and has killed several other plants. The gophers along with other pests and diseases have been terrible this year.

I will probably pick this pumpkin next Saturday. According to the ott measurements it has grown a little bit in the past week but who knows whether it really did or not.

A young kiwano fruit. This is my first year growing them and this one is probably the only one that has set so far. I hope it ripens in time.

I went to the Elk Grove weigh yesterday. They were extremely disrespectful to me and my pumpkin. They decided it wasn't worthy enough to place it with the other pumpkins and placed it(obviously)with it's bottom side showing. It was one of the very few orange pumpkins there and maybe even the orangest. Part of it was hanging off the table. And then they never even brought me up to get mine weighed. Later on my pumpkin popped on the results board. I came there to get my pumpkin weighed and the least they could have done was put with the other pumpkins, placed it on the correct side, and weighed it with the other pumpkins. They allowed some kid come up with his 6lb ag. It was obviously a joke entry and questionable whether the kid even grew it. Grass was thrown at me by another entrant! Not to mention the illegal entries allowed and that won prize money at the weigh off. Whoever that was in charge of the other giant vegetables obvious didn't know the gpc rules and where to put things. The places were labeled and they still screwed it up.

Its ugly side.
Monday, October 4 View Page
This is how they displayed it. You clearly tell its on the wrong side. Even after they "weighed" it, it was still put on the wrong side. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they did this intentionally.

I pulled out the vine that grew my pb since it was almost dead. It was about 18 and half feet long with only a few secondaries, the longest a little under 6ft. The pumpkin was set about 10ft out. Next year I'd like to see a much larger vine and for it to still be in okay condition at this time.

The tiny stump....
Monday, October 4 View Page
This watermelon had blossom end rot as the others did. I cut off the end to see what would happen. I don't think it will last much longer.
Monday, October 4 View Page
Too little time and no males to pollinate them. Last week there were a couple days in the 100s. Today it only got to the low 70s. Last week was most likely the end of hot weather for 2010.

The pumpkin was 12.23% light to the 2008 ott chart and 31.91% light to the circumference chart. This was not a very long fruit. I actually thought this would go heavy since it seemed pretty solid. Both of my pumpkins have gone over 10% light. Next year with good seeds hopefully my pumpkins will be close to the chart or heavy.

And the season has gotten even worse. A deer has now decided jump the 6ft+ fence and smash down and eat the tops off my tomato plants and almost all the leaves off the okra. Not to mention it rips off tomatoes, takes one bite out of them, and then throws them back down on the ground. They only positive garden thing that happened today was one of the cats killed a rabbit. I went to a car show today and lo and behold there were two giant pumpkins in someone's driveway. They were both over 100lbs.
Sunday, October 10 View Page
The deer continues to destroy my garden. It ripped my chayote plant out and destroyed my peppers. I guess I'll need a 12ft fence if I want to grow anything next year. This has been my worst year as a gardener ever and will probably completely destroyed before the frost kills it.
