Go evening to all, and may your plants be healthy and strong. I like many others probably....grabbed some Weeks NC Giant Seeds from my local Feed and Seed store on a whim back in Early March, thinking I would toss them in the garden for fun and see what happened. I was uneducated, but on time in getting them planted in doors. Seedlings went in soil on April 30th "I did use the file and soak method", which yielded sprouts in 6 days... this I found impressive since germination was listed at 10-14 days. I did not do alot of the Pro-Growers Preps the way most of you do each season, but I am working to make up for it. I have been growing my hills as I go, adding depth, diameter and nutrients (mixed in my wheel barrow) and added to the hill. Next I had an add on of about 2500 closer to 3000 square feet of tilled soil, to let them vines run on and loose to get them feeders in. I'm getting ready to till in Ironite 1-1-0, and horse manure to the add on area to host the Satelite plants once the mains get stretched out there. I have Pictures in increments from Birth of the Sprouts until now. Post maybe tomorrow. I am proud so far of my first attempt, Water Bill is soaring, and I am designing a Mini Water tower with timers to water pre-dawn, and late afternoon. I am going to attempt to grow a couple standing straight up (Stem Up). Thinking of ramping vine using PVC gutter with soil mix in it to ramp Vine. Thinking when I get to a Female, I will simply elevate a pallet with blocks, and start drooping the vine, to get the feeder roots.....?? Any input to this theory...Trials Errors Criticisms? All Ears.

Fighting shifting winds today gusting from 5 to 30 mph, and squash beetles. Found some eggs hiding under low lying leaves, scraped the eggs, and applying Sevin spray again. Not a good picture taking Day largest leaves are wider than my Office Depot Ruler...13-14 inches and Main vine leaders are just starting to shoot. Will have runners this week. Not sure what Weeks record is....but I'm gonna try and raise a nice one for my first attempt. If I could reach 500 lbs for a first attempt, I think I would be happy.

Lost one of my Weeks Giants today to the Winds, that was bad enough, but after that I lost a lot of sweet corn that was tassling. Winds came from every direction possible today, even straight down at times it seemed. Fortunately I 6 more Weeks growing but I am majorly bummed about it. It was one of the healthiest, snapped her stem clean off.

I have 3 Remaining Weeks Plants....the best one is unscathed. The wind fight has settled for the time being, and the tap roots are starting to sink in. Have 4 main vines, and one little guy on each of them.

This is my first little female with bud. This picture was taken 2 days ago on the 16th. 42 hours later that main vine is 32 inches longer. These suckers are taking off.

This picture shows the ramping method I am trying out. I am mixing soil in my wheel barrel (barrow) every couple of evenings and adding to the length of the ramp. But at an average of 13-16 inches a day of vine growth, this is proving to be a challenge.

Big Dad is my First Pumpkins name. This is the Outer Circumference Measurement from my 7 day old. This one is enlongated a little, but it just so happens he was born on my Dad's 65th Birthday July 8th so I'm keeping him. "Happy Birthday" to Bof Em'.

Big Dad 7 days old. This is what us Retired Sailors call a bow to stern measurement. Like I said he is a little oblong....however I have secretly (shhhhhh)no one is looking right??? Placed a full 2 gallon water jug up against the blossom end after photos in hopes of forcing him to fatten up in the belly a bit. Just looking to make him more symetrical(round). Figure 2 days might take care of it.

This is my number 2 at 5 days old. Hansome little fella aint he? Has a nice shape. Will hold off on all other measurements. I am tracking and if my calculations are correct he is growing a smidge faster than Big Dad...but I don't want to hurt Big Dad's feelings so we will keep this between us. Don't want no vines going mid-evil in the patch on me. LOL
