My first foray into the world of giant pumpkins, I am sure I am over my head. Here are my two specimens given to me by my cousin... I have named them Big and Rich as I am optimistic (and love country music) I will probably enjoy naming the pumpkins as they grow as well.

Just over a week of growth on these two... they are both competing to be the one to make it into my garden.

Big, a couple days after my botched planting attempt (I realized after I planted him that I didn't follow the directions about planting orientation). I think I really did some damage to the root ball. Still alive but rebounding slowly. Ooops

Poor Big, after my disasterous drunken planting incident he doesn't seem to be rebounding too well. Considering planting Rich in his place.

Rich has now been planted in Big's place.... he is looking much healthier than Big. I was sober and got help when planting Rich. =)

This second plant seems to be much happier in my garden... it's growing like a bad weed. =)

Perhaps the wrong lens to be photographing a growing vine... but you get the idea. Rich is really starting to take off and so are the weeds, I am thinking I have a garden date this weekend.
