Growing a 783 Beauchemin and a 926 Breznick. Both plants are approximately the same size, about fourteen feet wide and thirteen feet long. Lots of rain, not much sun. Plants seem to be doing well. Stems are yellow, leaves are green. Lots of females have appeared over the last two days. Have removed all females from side vines. Two tiny pumpkins on the main vines. Thank you all for all I have learned. Very excited, o my god, never seen plants like this. Hope to have pictures up soon.

Finally put up the wind guard as thunderstorms are predicted from now until it seems forever. Declared war on all the bugs that blew in with the last storm, cuke beetles, white butterflies, haven't seen an SVB, watching, spraying sevin hard tonight. Females at thirteen feet on the 783 Beauchemin. Proud of this plant, thanks Jim. For my 926 Breznick, thanks to Jim Kuhn. These two plants are running a race. Two other plants (unknowns from Topsfield) only about half the size but continuing to grow well. I learn a lot from everyone's diaries, appreciate it.

All females taken off side vines. A couple of potentials, two on each major plant. War on bugs seems to be won. Kleaze 10, bugs 0. Cuke beetles lost the game. Still raining, however, and rain predicted all week. Plants and I would like the sun to come out. Is this global warming? If I could, I would put a greenhouse over my whole patch -- with sodium lights. Go Red Sox.

Heard today this has been the fifth coldest and rainiest June on record in NH. Plants are hanging in there and still managing to grow, approx. 19 feet wide and 14 feet out. Hope to have pics soon, one of the kids ran off with camera??? Suitable female on 783 Beauchemin at about 12-1/2 feet, may pollinate tomorrow. Zip-tied her tonight. Still waiting for female on the 926 Breznick. Intend to cross these plants with each other.

Finally done with the thirty days of rain. Sun for the past two days. Pollination on the 783 seems to have gone well, will be doing more work, hoping to pollinate the 926 in the next day or two. Plants doing well, bugs are at bay. Had a great 4th of July with my family.

FedEx has apparently lost the new camera. So still can't post any pictures. One small pumpkin actually exploded. My friend's pigs got a nice snack. Have eight fruits set. Largest maybe 40 lbs, but flattening out on the bottom. Hope no more blow up with the new rain coming. 926 is out 24 feet, but 783 has more fruit. Vine growth seems to be slowing down. Garden has never dried out this season. Long gourds (93" Beauchemin, thanks again, Jim) at the top of their trellis, lots of flowers.

This pumpkin has been named Kleazilla. It is my best hope. About 14 feet out on the main vine of the 926 Breznick, also crossed with the 783 Beauchemin. Exciting watching this pumpkin grow. Pumpkin Pooh says it's like riding the hobby horse at the grocery store. Whoo baby. Still a honey of a pumpkin, yesterday weighted about 303.

Here is a picture of Kleazilla's stem. Wanted to grow on the stem, I was forced to roll the pumpkin and put burlap under it to get the stem off the ground. The vine on the stem seems to have flexibility to tolerate the moving around without stress. Hope all goes well with this one.

Had a visit from my twins and their friend. They came over to see Kleazilla. So here is a picture. Pumpkin Pooh was not available. The two on the right are my kids. Kleazilla (OTT 273, 434 lbs.), looks small surrounded by all these people! Growth has slowed a bit. Terminated all vines tonight. Weeded the patch Sunday so the dang weeds won't eat all the fertilizer.

Growth on all the pumpkins has slowed down. At last measurement Kleazilla was approx. 550 lbs. Still a honey of a pumpkin for my first year. Hope to get another picture soon. Nice color and a pretty shape. Pooh will attend the next photo session.

My third-place ribbon. All in all, not a bad first year. Took Kleazenite to the NHGPGA weigh-off at the Deerfield fair and placed 13th at 421. Took another (interesting but ugly) pumpkin just to be weighed for my records, came in at 390. Tomorrow is Toppsfield, going just to watch. But I'll have an entry next year!!!
