Honeybee yard, notice three hives, the big one is the good queen..the one on the right, the not so good queen, she will have to be replaced before closing hives for the winter..the low hive is the swarm from the big hive in June..doing great has a good queen..

Dead pumpkin, stopped growing at 35 inches, three days later checked and found one side mushy...opened pumpkin and no rot just liquid..very puzzling..we have had a good deal of rain..but enough sun inbetween to dry out..no idea what happened...

August 2, two small female blooms, the bees are very busy with their pollinating...I have been told its not too late yet to get a fair sized fruit, so we will see..I think the first pumpkin suffered from some kind of rot or fungus..it did not appear to have any outward injury, but beetle or perhaps possum..oh well..try again...

Two new pumpkins as of August l0th..they seem to be growing but Im not going to handle or take measurements, afraid of damaging the delicate skin at this stage..I have aspen chips under them to protect them from the grass..hoping they continue to grow...

Shelob the garden spider, she is fat with eggs which she lays in small sacs in her web..the first frost she will die but the small spiders will scatter about on the wind..they are the size of a speck of dust..

Finally picked a good pumpkin, not that I wanted to, but had to..a tropical storm was coming with 5 inches of rain..as pumpkin was sitting on straw..it was damp underneath and a potential for mold and eventual rot...It looks lovely is the size of a 40 lb turkey and sitting by the Narnia Lampost with a huge basket of Mum..my first attempt Im really happy with..maybe next year will not be so wet here in Connecticut..

I am very happy with this pumpkin..my first attempt even if weather conditions forced me to cut it early..it is sitting next to a bushel basket of mums which dwarfs it a bit but it looks nice by the "Narnia" lampost..

Rocket Dog and Aeronwy, Aeronwy is the smaller pumpkin..notice they differ in color, grown in different towns..Rocket Dog was a gift from a friend, who also gave me the plant that became "Aeronwy."
