A bit of a late start to the diary...some 10 days past the Niagra event which I attended and throughly enjoyed. I am growing I think 8 pumpkin plants and 2 squash. I now have 2 plants in the germinator...sprouted yesterday..for the early on Iowa and Indiana state fairs. They are the 1457 Paton and the 1536.5 vanKooten. the 2 largest fruits from america and Europe in '08, Sould be and interesting cross....sure hope it works. The next plant will be grown with Nancy, Ky. in mind, I think it shall be the 1408 Daletas. I'm starting to sand the seed today. The patch is in wonderful condition..all tilled and ready to go.
Friday, March 27 View Page
started the 1408.5 Daletas and put in the germinator. This plant is aimed at the Nancy Ky. weigh-offs. Will probably be p[ollinated by the 1457 Paton.
Friday, April 3 View Page
big storms last night, but bothe plants have done o.k. so far. The hoop-house on the vanKooten did blow apart, but no damage, so I covered plant with a 5 gal bucket with a hugh piece of firewood to hold it down. The 1408.5 Daletas has started nicely, I will put it in patch in 3 days.

now three plants in hoops....the Paton seems to be the early leader. Weather has been really chilly, so growth is slowed a bit. starting sunflowers and long gourds in the germinator today if I can motivate myself, as my back is really causing me a lot of discomfort....ouch. Was really pleased to see an old friend back on chat and doing well. Had hoped she would be trying one of the seeds I sent her, but "Oh Well"..I biought a new printer yesterday, hopefully it will allow me to add some pics to this page and my photo gallery. Hurry up, warm weather

culling has begun. today, 1556.5 Werner vs. 851 Kochanny----851 culled, 1375 Liggett vs. 1568 Connolly....1568 culled, 1408 Daletas vs. 1175.4 Lovelace------1175.4 culled (sorry Sam, it ran a good race)1142vanKooten vs 1370.5 Daletas---1370.5 cullled, 1472.5 Werner vs. 1490 Rose....too close to call (this is my "wet corner of patch" slower growth. going out to take some pics now as it finally slowed down raining, and I WILL install new printer so I can post those pics. Also the race between the 1524.5 liggett and the 1424.5 Werner is a dead heat, so I'll let them duke it out a little longer...both plants are amazing.

A shot of my wife, Cindy, fogging the 1370.5 Daletas using the fogger-mister made by Tony Vanderpool. It is light easy to use and really does an excelent job misting the plants. We can mist all 10 Pumpkins and 2 squash plants in approx 20 minutes. Right after this pic was taken...she tyrned the gogger on me..yuck, it was loaded with 5-2-2 fish emulsion. But, the cats love me.
