I just discovered that Google has been tracking my pumpkin's every move from outer space. I suspect that some grower has put them up to this (I'm watching you Wiz & Scherber). I'll be covering the pumpkin this year with aluminum foil when the satellite passes by to thwart their efforts! Growing big in 2013!

I started my seeds on the evening of the 17th. This is the lineup for this year. I'm hoping to cross a 2009 clone into most of them.

The grow room is doing its job. The 1421 and 1799 have been fast out of the gate. Doesn't mean much but it is fun to watch.

This is my 1421 Stelts plant. I've really liked this plant. It was the first to germinate and has continued to be the best grower since then.

This is the 1775 Starr plant. Also has been a pretty good grower.

This is my 1421 Stelts plant. No complaints about this plant. I think I'll be pollinating on Tuesday or Wednesday at about 12 feet.

This is the 1775 Starr plant. Few compaints about this plant either. It has caught the Stelts plant in length but a bit behind in side vines. I'll be pollinating this one in about a week at about 13-14 feet. More about this plant on denverpumpkins.com.

A big thanks to Joe for the world record pollen from a clone of the plant that grew the 2009! I know he had other plants he could have pollinated with it so it is greatly appreciated. Tomorrow I'll be pollinating the 1775 Starr with it. http://denverpumpkins.com/2013/06/a-big-thanks-to-joe-for-world-record.html

this is the 1421 Stelts day 10. 2nd biggest day 10 measurement I've ever had, but that doesn't mean much. however you always would rather have bigger than smaller.

this is the 1775 Starr. Long and skinny like it's mama. I'm really hoping that the pollination by the plant that grew the 2009 takes. I really like that cross on paper.

I was out of town for the last week and just getting caught up on my pumpkin plants now. Lots of vine burying to do but muddy soil is going to make that wait. Both pumpkins seem to be growing nicely. The 1421 Stelts (aka Stanley) is in the foreground in this picture.

This is the 1775 Starr. This one got started very slow but seems to be kicking into gear now.

Thanks for the 1421 seed Joe.

Its a fun time of year right now. 1421 Stelts doubled its weight over the last 7 days. This is by far the best growing pumpkin I've ever had.

Some descent gains this last week for the 1775 Starr. It is just a couple of days from filling in its growing space and then it will be fully terminated. I'm hoping to see even better gains after that.

Nice time on the RMGVG patch tour today. It was great seeing everyone and thanks for coming by my patch. Pictured here is the 1421 Stelts. Still growing very nicely. Estimating right at 900 pounds right now.

Dang! Lost the big one today on a blossom end split. Could have been a state record contender. Estimates 1,107 today, thumps like a rock and is still putting on 15-18 pounds a day. The cross in this one is 1421 Stelts x 220 DeBacco which I think is a pretty nice cross.

My 1421 went over the Colorado state record mark today estimating at 1,317 pounds. Won't be legal for competition but it is something to be proud of. Still putting on 12-14 pounds a day with 23 days left to grow. I'm hoping to get her to the scale.

As tremendous a pumpkin as the big one has been there is a descent chance I won't be growing a seed from that pumpkin this next year. The reason is because of this late pollination I set a week ago. This pumpkin is my 1421 Stelts x 1725 Harp. The 1725 Harp is a clone of the plant that grew the world record 2009. I have a 2nd pumpkin set with the same cross on that plant as well. With a little luck and good weather we will have seeds in 40 days.

This is another late pollination that I think is a very interesting cross. This pollination is on my son's 335 Scherber plant. The 335 is 1421 Stelts x 1161 Rodonis. It is a cross of a clone of the plant that grew the 1663 Zoellner crossed with a clone of the plant that grew the 1725 Sweet. That was crossed this year with a clone of the plant that grew the 2009 world record. My 7-year-old son is growing this seed and it was the fastest growing pumpkin of any pumpkin we've ever grown out of the gate. He is growing on virgin soil that was only prepped 2 weeks before he planted it outdoors and maybe 35 square feet got tilled until the tiller broke. The plant has limited space and is maybe 150 square feet in size and it has still gotten to an estimate 357 pounds already with limited care (about as good of care as a 7-year-old would do). I'm hoping to start a seed from this late pollination for my patch next year.

I like this picture. This young lady is 21-years-old and 6 feet tall so that will give you an idea of the size of the pumpkin.

This is the 1220 Johnson (1421 Stelts x 220 DeBacco). The plant that grew this pumpkin had the best root system I've ever had. It just wanted to grow.

This is the 695 Johnson (1775 Starr x 1725 Harp). The 1725 Harp pollinator is a clone/cutting from the plant that produced the world record 2009. Let me know if you would be interested in any seeds.

I found this kind of interesting. The darker color seed is the 1421 Stelts x 220 DeBacco that came from my 1220 pound pumpkin. The lighter color seed came from the same 1421 plant. I did a late season pollination on the plant after my 1220 split and the pollinator was the cutting/clone from the 1725 Harp that grew Ron Wallace's world record pumpkin. Even though the pollinators are pretty much kissing cousins the seed are already showing genetic differences. Seeds from the 1220 Johnson and 119 Johnson will be available the beginning of November.

Michelle from Ft. Collins contacted me and asked if she could carve my pumpkin. She must have spent 20 hours working on it and didn't ask a dime for it. She just loved doing and loved watching the cars stop by to see it as she worked. I think the kids are going to love it at the Harvest Festival. A big thanks to Michelle!

I have a limited number of seeds available from my 695 Johnson. This pumpkin is 1775 Starr x 1725 Harp. The pollinator is a clone/cutting of the plant that grew Ron Wallace's world record 2009 so it is an interesting cross.
