Well as of tonight, bought the last seed I wanted for my lineup - 1647 Wallace. I know I said I would grow another 498 Van Hook but that's changed, lol, funny how that works. If the 498 would have went heavy I would be growing it for sure, it still is a possibility as backup. If all goes well the main lineup will be: 1647 Wallace, 1381 Checkon, and 1426 Wolf. Backups for 1381 and 1647 will be 498 as mentioned and a couple others to be decided, and I have enough 1426s that at least one should germ - thx again Andy.

Getting closer, patch snow free again after our last little storm on the weekend. Ground still froze, laid down some poly today to hopefully heat it up a bit. Will be digging in the cables and putting up hoophouses over the next couple weeks. New things for this year will be the bigger hoophouses and heating cables, and a soil test which was done in the fall, and luckily my soil is in pretty good shape. I will add some sort of misting system as well this year, in case we get the heat we did last summer, I lost enough leaves that I want to be prepared this time. Other than that, I will do pretty much what I did last year except MORE of some stuff, more mycos, more humic and fulvic acid and more molasses, my other ferts and stuff, pruning, etc. will stay the same.

Some wierd tendril mutations I've never seen before. On the 498 Van Hook late season on one set of the first secondaries, in this one small area tendrils produced these vines with different leaves and even a few small female flowers.

More odd tendril from last season. I would have cut these off when I first seen them, but having never seen it before I wanted to leave awhile to see what they turned into.

My PB, may be tough to beat but I will try my hardest. 853 Myslichuk. Last year if I only would have grown this 8 miles west of where I did, it would be a saskatchewan record, if, if, if, LOL. I have a few garden patches I could use in sask too, but I don't think I will grow there this year.

Some seeds started today - 2 853 Myslichuks filed and soaked 1 and put in starting mix, the other I removed from seed coat and into paper towel, I've had good luck with both methods in the past. Also went with the paper towel method for one 1426 Wolf. I will also try giant tomatoes this year if any sprout, got 3 2.61 Niewenhoffs 11 (7.33 Hunt self) in starting mix. Next batch of pumpkin seeds will be started on the 26th, and a couple more on the 29th.

I'm way overdue for an update. End of may dug up 2 5'x5' areas 12-14" deep for cables, added 2 blocks of coco coir to the patch soil, RTI Myco, and granular humic. May 8th put plants in. My lineup changed a bit however, I wanted to grow a 1647 wallace but of the 3 I had none made it, only one germed a bit but then rotted in the starter mix, not sure what happed there, duds I guess as I never had problems with any other seeds this year, a shame as I really wanted to grow one, thought for sure with 3 seeds it would happen. I had lots started but ended up putting in one of my own 853s which I had originally started for practice on the 19th of April, its now well over 4'. My one 1381 checkon also germed (started Apr. 25) its about 2' out now. This is the best I've had at this time of the year, I've never had a vine the first week of june ever.

Some other seeds I started were, Apr. 23rd 1 1426 wolf, and 2 853s. Apr 28th 901 wolf, 2 1676 checkons. May 1st 1243 colbert, 1426 wolf and a 1634 werner. After no luck with the 1647 wallaces I started lots more backups just in case I needed them. All germed. The 23rd 1426 wolf I doubled up with my 853 in the patch but culled it a few days ago in favor of my bigger plant. The second 1426 started may 1st I wanted to plant out at my farm patch but it formed a twin - 2 plants from one seed and runty looking. So at the farm patch I put in the 901 wolf and one 1676 checkon on may 21st - cut worm got the 1676 as I never put anything around them, 901 living although a week of cold weather halted its growth but at least its still alive. I've got 1 more 1676 and the 1243 colbert in large pots which I will put in out there tonite, they are just starting to vine. I also gave away the 1634 werner to an old grower here whos only grown store bought seed for many years. Hes a pretty good grower but had some bad luck with my 853s I gave him - he only ended up with one in the patch, and asked me if I had any extra plants so he got the 1634 which I also had potted up in a 5 gallon pot in case I needed it.

Of the 3 2.61 Nieuwenhoff 11 Tomatos - 7.33 Hunt x Self. 2 germed, but one came up with the seed coat firmly on still, I tried covering it up in about an inch more soil and keeping it damp to hopefully make it push the coat off itself but it didn't work. It was too firmly on to even try with tweasers to remove myself I knew I'd wreck it anyways, so I just went with the one. I put it in today, it was about 8" tall in the red solo cup, buried it up to the leaves so nows its about 4" in the patch, added myco and watered in.
