Did a soild dench today. Eased the main down a little on 1390 Geddes, it is about 6" long now. The hoop houses are in the high 60s and the ground is at 74 degrees in the larger hoop. Both plants doing well so far. Main on the 1390 should be down by the end of the week!

Main flat double vine on the end of the 1390 Geddes. Ive been really pouring on the water and that has helpd with the flat vine. Today I did some surgery on the end of the double vine, pulled off all of the tendrils and leaves. The two heads I left the leaves on and then split the vine in the middle about one inch, now I have two separate vines I just hope one side heals at least, if they both heal I will cut the other off. Now it is just a waiting game to see what happens, good experiment if should happen in the future. If it turns for the worse I will plant a back up, but if it survives I will let it grow for the season.
Thursday, May 19 View Page
Did some more pruning on the double vine tonight. Both vines survived the split. One side looked like it was going to doulble again so I pinched off that head and now I have only one vine with one head, I will see what happens from here!

Here is my flat double main vine.
Friday, May 20 View Page
Here is the split I created to separate the two vines.
Friday, May 20 View Page
You can see the split here, and the hole formed from splitting the two. The hole will probably dry up from the heater and i will have it for the rest of the season but i am ok with that if the plant continues to grow.

Well did some more surgery today on 1390, cut main back to the last set of secondaries, because the main had twisted because of the flat vine and split open, so I decided to cut the main and will try training a secondary as the new main. Place captan on the end as to protect it.
Sunday, May 22 View Page
Decided to plant backups along with the others in case of any more mishaps. They are another 1390 Geddes and 1085 LeBlanc. These plants are in the ground with no hoop house or heating coils.
Sunday, May 29 View Page
gave all 4 plants a soil drench. started my cucumber seeds directly in the garden, planted some pimento peppers, first tomato almost ripe.
Saturday, June 4 View Page
Thought I was going to have to train a secondary to become the new main, but a new main has started to grow from the center of the plant on the 1390 Geddes!

inspected the pumpkin today and i have another stem split, this one is oozing. i dried it with a towel and then placed captan on it. hopefully it will heal up like the other one. placed board under the one, cut off vine after the pumpkin so there would be less stress on the stem of this one.
Saturday, August 6 View Page
thankfully i have an o sh-t pumpkin my larger one got two splits in it overnight, put some captan on it to see if it will heal, not into the cavity yet, but it doesnt look good.
