Started a little late again this year. Just filed and soaked my seeds today. Going with my seed from last years pumpkin (500 Oliveri 08) and a 748 Davies 05. They should both do well but I only have room for one. I may just throw the other plant in the compost pile and use it for male pollinators. So tomorrow I'll wrap them up in paper towel and (weather permitting) I'll have them in the ground by weeks end. Definitely a late start AGAIN. *sigh*
What a year...
So far I've tried starting 9 seeds. I just had my last three sprout this week. The previous 6 either never germinated or else were eaten by a massive horde of ants that went through our garden. Now I've had to spend the last several days picking cucumber beetles off of our plants. Never had cuc beetles before. Saw one last year and killed it, now I've killed 30-40.
So far the weather has been cold and dry. Although I've heard it's like this across most of the country. I'm about ready to just give up for the year. We'll see. If the plants start to grow I'll at least have something for Halloween.
