This year I'm planting in two places. Here at the Dummer Township boonies site we have a 901 Hunt, 1236 Vincent/McGill and a 1330.5 Johnston/Butler going in. In the next picture it shows all the Plants going in at a friends property who will water and remove greenhouses for me and I will do the burying etc.

Here is my growing partner for this year, our son Jacob. He is quickly learning that pumpkin gardening is alot of work and wishes that weeds did not grow. These are the plants going in at the secondary site. 1217 Jarvis*, 800 Debacco*, 1056 Hebb*, 1330.5 Johnson/Butler, 1264 Kline, 1355 Kilburn, 993 Cavanagh, 853 Razo*. Not shown in this picture are a 1236 World Record Vincent/McGill, 848 McKenzie, 882 Starr. These all sprout very well as I went back to using my seed heating mat with the germination box 1 inch off the mat and they have sprouted in 24-36 Hours and using a new mixture this year some seeds had massive roots on them compared to past years.

Planted the 1236 Vincent/McGill and the 901 Hunt in separate mini greenhouses on May 3rd. 13 days ahead of last years planting date. With some help from mother nature I should be able to get a June polination date this year. They have heating cables and calf heating bulbs to keep them cozy at night. I'm keeping my eye on that "Team Lunatic" !!!

The greenhouses have been taken off and replaced with my customary wind breaks and shade netting material. The plants were flagging a bit but with some watering and little food are now loud and proud. We have had a few setbacks on the plants that are going in the secondary patch but do have some great plants to put in there. Here at the Dummer Twp boonie patch the 1236 is the star of the show with the 901 close behind. The mystery plant in the third planting site is chugging along. It has been in the plus 30C range for a few days and forecasted for three more and we are still in May!!!!!!!!! I think we are in for a long dry summer.

I have just planted my second round of Buckwheat that is being planted with broadcasted Myco to have the soil preinoculated with spores when the plants arrives. My plants are behind a bit but will catch up hopefully. First planting of Buckwheat will be cut down shortly.

Well I finally have a pollination on the 1236 Vincent/Mcgill. My appologies though I had to pollinate with the 901 so no stellar squash cross but it might have some magic in it. Only 10 feet out - 5 lober The battle goes on!

This was taken a while back but the 901 Hunt has overtaken the 1236 Vincent/McGill for patch supremecy now, I have a female coming up about 16 feet out and hopefully on July 1st, how appropriate - Canada day. Buckwheat is proving to be alot of work but will work well I hope.

Here is a shot of the patch that was taken about a week ago, its all grown in now and the fruit are starting to take off. I'm way behind most other Ontario growers but thats the way it goes.

Haven't put many posts up this year but here is how it stands at the Dummer Twp boonies patch these days. No monsters here but my 1236 and 901 especially are growing quite well. This is a pic of the 1362 Poirier at day 26. Has that 998 Pukos look to it and should be a nice orange like the 500 Northrup It sits at 88-64-57 = 209 OTT

Shown here is my very first squash grown here in the Boonies. 1236 Vincent/Mcgill which has been a joy to grow so far. It sits at 71-48-49 = 168 on Day 20. Not the greatest but this one might sit till mid October for some extra days.

Now for the very fast growing 901 Hunt. It sits at a shocking 78-58-56 = 192 at Day 19. It now has a stem split due to the unbelievable grow it is doing now. Gonna be interesting to see what it measures at day 25 if it stays together.

This is the 1236 Vincent/Mcgill at day 28. OTT of 221 " which is proving to be a steady grower but probably not a record setter but looks great and maybe the colour will stay.

1362 Poirier is coming along, this will be one for an early weigh off, it should have great colour. OTT of 242 on day 34. The plant on this one is very small and the size of fruit off it is surprising.

901 Hunt is coming along good. It measured OTT of 247 on day 27 today which is ahead of the 1200 lb benchmarks. I might run out of time on this one with the late pollination. Large plant hopefully equals large fruit.

1362 Poirier x 901 Hunt, just can't get enough of that shape, this will be an early weigh off fruit. Had to break out the Chenier size comparison bottle.

1236 Vincent/McGill x self, plugging along and it probably will make 650 lbs I think, maybe 6-8 th place at Port Elgin

Last but not least is the 901 Hunt at Day 35, It is still growing strong and I visited the Hydroponic store today for some of my tried and tested solutions to kick it up a notch. Stem splits seem to be holding.

901 tucked in to its enclosure with fan running 24/7 to keep it dry

Well, I spoke too soon and the 901 popped on the blossom end last night, I will weigh it with the scale next weekend when I pluck it out for Halloween day at our trailer park, should be fun.

Weighing in the 901 Hunt x Open tonight after the BES split last week. The tripods are a bit of work to set up but work like a charm.

OTT on the 901 was 131-93-84 = 308" for an estimate of 617 lbs and it weighed in at 608 lbs so it was 1.5 % light but within the 5% of the accuracy of the table. This fruit was 36 days old when it went down.
