Plants went in the ground today. Due to my lack of being able to get anything to sprout, I was lucky enough to be able to steal 2 plants from my brother. It made my choice for what to grow this year pretty easy. :)
I will be growing 917.5 Bowman 2008 & 1170.5 Tanner 2008

I've had at least 6, pretty big hail storms hit my plants so far this year. This is some of the leaves on the Bowman plant.

The Bowman plant is wanting to grow straight up in the air. I'm having a hard time training it to do anything. At least half of the leaves are heavily damaged from the hailstorms.

I went to Alaska for a week and when I got back this female had already opened, and I'm assuming the Bee's took care of business. I have another female opening later this week, so I'll be sure to get that one.

Pollinated my second pumpkin on the Tanner plant this morning. I like this plant. It has recovered nicely from the hailstorms, and is growing fast, and staying close to the ground.

First pumpkin on the Tanner. This was pollinated approx. on 6/25 by the bees. About the size of a baseball, but it will be coming off once the other one is a go.

Forgot to post that today's pollination was the Tanner 1170.5 (dmg) 2008 X self. Both of the seeds I'm growing came from damaged pumpkins. Hope that turns out ok for me. Since I stole both plants from my brother, I'm just happy to have some growing this year. :)

Pollinated the 3rd female on Tanner this morning. It had crazy deformed lobes. Culled off the first, hoping the second one is a keeper. It's about 11 feet out on the main. Plants looking good, recovering nicely from the hail damage. Should have a female open up on the Bowman tomorrow. Forgot how bad the fishguts smell.

Went out of town for a few days to attend a funeral, and while I was gone, something terrible happened to my Tanner pumpkin. Apparently a bomb went off. My neighbor said there was a massive Thunderstorm here on Sunday, so I guess it just picked up too much water from that, and couldn't hold it together. Sure did suck to come home to. The pumpkin was the size of a volleyball.

Bowman x with Tanner, 4 days old. This is a wierd looking pumpkin, on a very difficult plant. Can't get the vines to lay down.

This is my new problem. Since my #2 Tanner pumpkin exploded, I'm forced to use the two pumpkins that are left on my plants, and as you can see they are facing each other, literally only 2 feet apart. And this is after I moved the vines as far as I dared. Sucks, because one of them is gonna have to go, and I really have no more room to set a pumpkin in my patch.

Bowman day 23: This pumpkin has a horrible pear shape, vines that still won't lay down, (even though they're buried), and stem that looks as if it will snap at any moment. I'm doing lots of stem and vine support on it. Measures today at around 105 lbs.

Bowman is measuring in at 142 lbs OTT. Tanner is growing slowly and measuring in at 69.3 OTT. My plants have taken a beating this past week from the sun and the wind. Lost several leaves on both plants due to sun damage. :(

Bowman and Tanner as they sit in the patch. Way too close together. Someone's gotta go soon.

Tanner is gaining about 2 lbs. a day, vs. the Bowman which is going steady at 10 lbs. a day for a week now, so I guess we know which one is the keeper. Hopefully it will keep going.
Tanner OTT 95 lbs.
Bowman OTT 200 lbs.
