A few people have asked me how my plants are doing. I told them I would post and update with some pictures. I have 3 plants going. 1st is a 855 Haslam (753 Dill x 775.5 Tanner) ----753 Dill is a (1068 Wallace x 670 Daigle)---- ----775.5 Tanner 06 is a (670 Daigle x 869 Calai)---- The main is about 8 ft long and there is a female at the tip

The 2nd plant is a 1408.5 Daletas 07 (1068 Wallace x 805 Pukos) Last year a 1408 grew a 1170.5 dmg pumpkin for me. The main is about 7 ft long. no females yet.

My 3rd plant is another 855 Haslam 08 (753 Dill x 775.5 Tanner) It was a back up to my Daletas plant, at the opposite side of the plot. But it was doing better than the one back behind it, a 932.5 Tanner 05. So turned it 180° and yanked the 932 plant. The main is about 8 ft. long, no females yet. All of my plants are behind previous years. I started later than normal. It has been a cool and wet spring. And I never got my hoop houses up. The plants have endured had two hail storms and several squalls with high winds and heavy rains including one this evening. Now I need to get the shade cloth up soon, the plants have some sunburned leaves.

All the plants are 14-16 days behind where my last years plants were at this time.

Here is a shot of the whole patch with the sprinklers on. The shade support structures (car canopies) are up. Now I need to get the shade cloth on them.

Here is a picture of the 855 Haslam 08. It had great genetics, color & shape. Also it was really heavy to the chart, which is rare in Utah.

It's been a terrible year for me (and many other Utah growers) I have 3 plants. Two are don't have any pumpkins at all. And are diseased. These are the 855 Haslam I and the 1408 Daletas) The other one (855 Haslam II) has 3 small pumpkins, all are x open and are still small enough to abort. the photo here is on the 855 Haslam I plant. I know I should yank it ...I just haven't had the motivation to do it yet ... I haven't had the motivation to do much of anything this year.

This is a picture of the 1408 Daletas plant. no pumpkins on this plant.

this is what the leafs and vine tip look like on the 1408 plant. The leaves are all two toned - striped - whatever you want to call it. The vine haven't grown in length in a long time.

Here is the biggest pumpkin on the 855 Haslam plant. It is a x open about 25 ft out on the main. I'm not even sure how old it is. I'm guessing about 10-14 days.

This is the 2nd biggest pumpkin on the 855 Haslam plant. It is a x open at the end of a secondary. I don't know how old it is either. I'm debating on whether or not to keep this one.

Here is the 3rd pumpkin on the 855 Haslam plant. It is about 30 ft out on the main and is x open. The main is terminated not to far after the pumpkin. I believe this female opened last Friday, the 7th. Not to bad huh ... only 35 day past prime pollinating time. hey at least it has a nice long stem.

Here is a picture of the 855 Haslam plant. The 1408 Daletas plant and it are back to back. It is strange to me that the 1408 came down with something and the 855 didn't. And that another 855 at the far end of the patch came down with something different from the 1408.

The sunflowers are doing ok this year. Many of them blew over about a week ago during when a windy storm front came through. The tallest ones are about 12-13 ft. I am a little disappointed that so many of them are the multiple head type. I prefer the single head ones.

We no contenders in my patch this year. but I did finally get something to set. I have two pumpkins on a 855 Haslam plant. Here is the first about 25 ft out on the main. I'm guessing it's about 200 lbs.

The smaller pumpkin on the 855 Haslam plant developed a crack recently. I've never seen on before like this.

Here is a photo for all those wanting to know what it estimates ... 162 circ... notice the tape goes down to the ground and out around my feet. Sorry, lol, I decided early on that I wouldn't measure these two and just find out what they weigh at the weigh off.

Here is the spotting on the larger pumpkin that was cause by seaweed spraying and not rinsing off afterwords. (maybe it just has freckles?)

we got a puppy from the local shelter for my son, who has been wanting a dog for years ! we figured he is finally old enough to take good care of him. We named him Shadow. He is a boarder collie x springer spaniel. He is about 3 months old. Hopefully he and the cats will get along.
