I planted the following plants out in the patch today:
603.5 Muller(845 Nesbitt X self)
641 Andrews(670 Daigle X 603.5 Muller)...this is a backup for the 603.5 Muller plant.
364.1 Andrews(603.5 Muller X 670 Daigle)

I planted another 603.5 Muller 03 plant out in the patch. It will be a backup for the 364.1 Andrews 06 plant. If it's not needed in it's backup role, I plan to grow it out for genetics, and give it about 200 sq.ft.

The 641 Andrews and 364.1 Andrews are about the same size, and appear to be growing normally. I'm pleased with these two plants so far.
Both of my 603.5 Muller plants are exhibiting double tendencies, with two leaves at some nodes.
The backups are planted at opposite ends of the patch from the main plants, so I have plenty of time to make decisions.

I used bamboo stakes to start the gradual process of easing my mainvines down to the ground.
I sprayed my first application of Garlic Barrier on the plants today. No sign of insect trouble so far.
The two 603.5 Muller plants are still showing double tendencies on their mains. The 641 Andrews and 364.1 Andrews plants are still exhibiting "normal" looking mainvines.

I'm having a decent early season so far....by my standards. Not the best or the worst start. I measured the mainvines at 6 PM today, on what I consider my two competition plants for this season. The 641 Andrews has a main of 53" and the 364.1 Andrews has a main of 52"....they're running neck and neck at this point.
It looks like the 603.5 Muller(north) plant's double mainvine has seperated on it's own. The 603.5 Muller(south) plant's mainvine (which had double leaves at nodes)looks like it could be correcting to single characteristics.

We got about 2" of rain here recently.
Very light hail as well, resulting in a few holes in the pumpkin leaves here and there. Nothing to fret about.
More chance of rain tonight....hopefully without the hail.

I measured the mainvines on my two main competition plants, they are as follows:
641 Andrews....8'10". It grew an avg. of 7.6" per day over the past 7 days.
364.1 Andrews...8'7". It grew an avg. of 7.3" per day over the past 7 days.

364.1 Andrews now has a mainvine of 12'1". It grew an average of 7"/day for the past 6 days.
The 641 Andrews' mainvine has a split on the underside of it about 7" from tip. This was due to my negligence(the silt fence that I'm using as a temporary windbreak blew against it one night, bending it down). The split goes against the grain, causing a weakened area....not looking good. I have one female before the split. Hopefully I can get it to take, or I'll likely have to resort to pollinating on a secondary.
The 603.5 Muller(south) plant is growing well. I'm hoping the main stays single now.
I'll likely pull the 603.5 Muller(north) plant soon, as it's still a double vine and the smallest plant I've got...I've been neglecting it.

Three pumpkins hit day 10 for me today. I took measurements of them at 5 PM today.
364.1 Andrews pumpkin....day 10 circ. of 20"
641 Andrews pumpkins...two at day 10....mainvine pumpkin circ. of 17.5"....sidevine pumpkin circ. of 18.5". I decided to start culling the sidevine pumpkin.
The remaining 603.5 Muller plant has a July 16th mainvine pollination on it.

I don't think the pollination on the 603.5 Muller took. That's O.K. as it's mainly a genetics plant. Still time to get pumpkins on the vine for seed production.

Day 20 for the pumpkin on the 603.5 Muller plant. Circ.= 51.5". This maybe the only pumpkin that this plant can support. I have two selfed pumpkins on it that don't seem to be growing. The plant is small, in poorer soil I'm guessing. The plant is mainly for genetics, and the cross on this pumpkin could be good for orange producing(603.5 Muller X 641 Andrews). It would be 3/4 603.5 Muller and 1/4 670 Daigle.

If all goes well, I think there's a chance this pumpkin could break 1K. I'd likely need favorable weather, no killing frosts before weighoff, and this pumpkin to go over 10% heavy. My 1041 Wallace 07(went about 10% heavy) was estimated at 18 lbs. heavier than this one at day 55, but this one is catching up. My current one has gained 476 lbs. from day 30-55, while my 1041 gained 408 lbs in that period. One thing going against my current one, is that it was pollinated 5 days later, and will likely be harvested earlier than my 1041 was. We'll see how it goes.

I've noticed for awhile, minor signs of powdery mildew on my A.G. plants. I checked them yesterday, and the mildew is getting progressively worse. The 603.5 Muller plant is heavily affected by it. The 364.1 Andrews and 641 Andrews are light to moderately affected. Being I don't use chemical insecticides and fungicides, I decided to spray the plants with Garlic Barrier. I haven't used it for many weeks. I've read garlic has antifungal properties, so I'm hoping it with lessen the spread of the powdery mildew. I've never had much of a problem with powdery mildew on my A.G. plants before, that I can recall.
About 5 or 6 days ago, I noticed a secondary vine on the 641 Andrews plant that had yellowing leaves on the last 6' of it. I cut it off about 1-2' past the yellowing, and I haven't noticed any more yellowing so far, thankfully.
I plan on attending the Delano weighoff on Sept. 27. A little over two weeks left to try and keep the plants healthy.
