Wednesday, May 15 View Page Started seeds on may 5th,In patch on may 11th & 12th ,got 1381 & another 1381 back up also 1365 checkon back up ,then a 1579& 1613 Wallace back up, Hopefully end up with a 1381 & a 1579,I like the cross of that 1579 its (1381 x 1789). We just had some heat to warm up the soil ,couple days at 100* but now back down a bit! Tuesday, June 4 View Page This is the 1381 ,It is at 2.5 ft & it will not come down, never had one this stubborn, otherwise looks real nice & quite aggressive ,it is ahead of my others, I'm quite concerned about getting it down onto patch though, by the time it is pollinating it might be many feet off the ground ,lol Tuesday, June 4 View Page The 1579 plant ,It looks good to ! nothing much to report, I bet this seed will grow some big ones this yr ! Wednesday, June 5 View Page Putting in an entry to say, 1381 still not on ground ,Its now at almost 4 ft , It seems to be coming down though ! If this thing made it-- I might finely have my 1000 pounder ! Monday, June 10 View Page The 1381 is finely on ground & partly buried, It flags in 80* , Hopfully it will get better when tap roots get established !! Otherwise supper nice plant ! Thursday, June 13 View Page The 1381 is at 6 ft now ,and i see the first pumpkin ,This is a perfect plant (so far) growth has slowed a bit as weather is been cooler , Also 1579 looking good ,but the 1613 wallace back up plant is better ,it might get picked, i will wait a bit & see Monday, June 17 View Page This is the 1381, I lost the first pumpkin to eater accident or possible quails , that's OK i want the next one i can barely see at approx 12 ft , Only problem is i got burnt leafs today at only 87* ,,I'm afraid of the 100* Plus that will soon be coming ,, Also a deer walked only feet from the plant last night ! Monday, June 17 View Page Here is the 1579 ,I culled the back up plant,,most secondary's are coming on the other side of plant that i have room for them, SO i am training some to cross over ! Thursday, June 27 View Page On the 1381 ,I will be pollinating (1-2 days) at 12 ft, Gonna be 105*,I will do everything possible,to insure the pollination takes, MAN i hate weather this hot !! Friday, June 28 View Page 1381 plant ,It is doing ok for the heat today ! But as you can see i have done a few things to protect ! 3 umbrellas, 2 shade cloths 8 ft up over top 12 x 24, 2 smaller shade structures over pumpkin & over secondary's ,, Other shade cloth pieces ,, & mister sprinkler !! Tomorrow is pollination day ,it is supposed to be 105* degrees , I will have to pollinate with self, as the 1579 plant does not have any males for tomorrow ! Thursday, July 25 View Page 1381 pumpkin at day 20 today, Look-in Good !! 77-52-51 =180 ott or 130 lbs , Best plant i ever had, 50 ft side to side secondaries, I bought more mycore (wp),& actinovate,& companion ,& Rootshield, , last secondaries will be terminated possible today & then -watch out ! DAm mole got in patch yesterday ,, These moles are not the same as rest of country, Impossible to catch or kill ! but castor oil does make them move,, I put castor oil on soil yesterday,, I hope it doesn't hurt soil ,, ,, Also I'm Running 600 watt high pressures sodium light in eve hrs ! There was 75% on a 12 x 20 ft,,, Now i got new peice that is 24 x 24 ft & only 30%,, This should put more power into pumpkin !! Sunday, August 4 View Page 1381- Now we are talk-in !!! 117-77-72=266 early morning OTT 390-430 lbs depending on chart used, looks like its now into the 30 plus pounds per day , maybe 35? ! Friday, August 9 View Page Day 35 , 130-83-80 = 293-ott for 518-558 lbs,, Cool nights still, I wish the nights would warm up ! many yrs you cant sleep because its to hot ay night ,, But not this yr ! It did not keep up the 30+ a day,, Our nights were cold,,, But it is now warming,, so i will see what happens !! But i did see a secondary with a bad spot -but not all the way threw vine , Probly the last time i can measure for a while ,hard to get in there !! Friday, August 23 View Page looks like i am out again , Found 2 rotted off secondary's & there is probably more ,Many more ,as growth has gone down to 12 lbs per day ,Its just over 800,probably not even a PB ,let alone 1000 lber , that means no more giant pumpkin growing for me ,as all spots in my yard now have the disease,! It was fun watching it grow so big so fast , but at 49 days old it should go quite a bit farther, O-well , on to something different i suppose ! Thursday, August 29 View Page Well it is still doing 10 a day ! I do not know how many secondary s are still feeding it, but main vine looks good & stump is good , I had a pumpkin yrs before & it had rotted off vines & nothing to feed , but at end of season it went 35% heavy , So ya never know till its over ! Monday, September 2 View Page Day 59 & 154-98-92= 344 ott 833 on the old chart, 880 on the new,, I need 4 more inches to tie old PB,But who knows maybe % heavy ? Its down to just a few pounds a day, Kind of surprising as the main vine looks good & so does the stump, Hopefully growing inside ?? If it could grow 9 more inches, Id take that- 900 on the old, Go 12% heavy & there it is ! I can wish anyways, But i dont think it will ever make it to my local weigh off !! Sunday, September 15 View Page well this thing has stopped increasing in ott 62 days , Strange thing the main vine & stump is still ok ,& the first secondary is ok but leafs are cooked ! most secondary s are rotted off a foot or 2 next to main , Too bad this disease happened ! I thought i had my monster this yr , It basically stopped growing at 50 days old , now at 346 ott 848 lbs or approx 900 on the new chart , Thursday, September 19 View Page Here is front Angel of pumpkin , WOW when i took the cover off it really looks big,, I found small hole under the side & starting to get soft around there , so the San Diego boys & Beach area boys will not have to worry about my pumpkin in pumpkin mania -going heavy, No pumpkin , I will chop it up in couple days weigh pieces & see what she weighs ? Sunday, September 22 View Page Ott was 158-98-94 ,,It only weighed 791 lbs, I found 4 spots on bottom that were rotted threw, Strange thing i never seen this on such a young & other wise perfect looking pumpkin ! But that enplanes why it slowed down its growing when it was in the 40 plus days old !! i think they tend to go light if picked early & more chance of going heavy if left on vine & not measuring any growth- but they are growing inside ! Well again probably 50% of its true potential ! Saturday, October 5 View Page I found the card that i added the weight on when i chopped it up & realize i forgot the weight of the bucket of seeds & slop , i had 12 lbs wright en down ,so the weight is 791 + 12 = 803 lbs ,,, well at least that puts me over 800 !!!
