This is a pic of the vent I made for it! works great! Detales to follow on how to make the vent! I have another hoop to build tomorrow, but my back is killing me so I had to quit for the day!
Sunday, May 9 View Page
Not a very nice day for mothers day! snowing again. It's been a long time since I have seen snow on mothers day. The white on the ground is snow and the blur spots in the pic is snow. woke up this morn with it snowing like crazy. I guess thats expected for living here in the north country Still nice and warm in the hoop!
Sunday, May 9 View Page
The wind has been real bad too, you can see how hard it is blowing by the trees that are leaning! WILL IT EVER STOP???
Sunday, May 9 View Page
started making 2 hoops first the frame, I used 1/2x1 1/2 ferring strips. make sure to pree drill the holes or the strips will split.
Sunday, May 9 View Page
I used up most of my 1 inch pvc from last years hoop that was destroyed by WIND again! make sure you pre drill the holes, it makes it much easier to drill.
Sunday, May 9 View Page
It is also a good Idea to flatten the pvc pipe also. I used a small propane torch to heat the pipe.
Sunday, May 9 View Page
I used a vice to flatten the ends of the pipe. It's not a good Idea to use your hands, use a vice! It's not pretty but it does the job!
Sunday, May 9 View Page
I used up the last years hoop pipe! so I had to use 5 ft. pieces. Most of the time I would use a full length and it would not have a piece of strip in the middle. And you can't bend pvc with a coupling in it, it will break on a short bend! YUP done that too! So useing up last years pieces this is what I came up with. It's not pretty but it will work, and maybe I can reuse it next year.
Sunday, May 9 View Page
After the plastic is on the hoop! I had to use 200 mph Duct tape on the sides of the hoop. The clips that you can buy just don't hold up to the wind we have had.
Sunday, May 9 View Page
It's been so cold and windy here that I had to move the plants in the garage. I don't have to worrie about them here!
Monday, May 10 View Page
Finaly got the hoops out! Maybe these will stay in place. These are staked down with rebar inside and wood stakes on the outside.

I hope Don likes this one? It's on his plant....it's got a long way to go! It has till October 9th to make 1000 lbs or better. I have never had a pumpkin this size in july. Maybe this is my lucky year.
Thursday, July 15 View Page
This is my son Craig's pumpkin, he keeps telling me that his is bigger than mine. little does he know it's only gona be for a short time. His pumpkin is on the other 875 Blais plant.

This is a blossem on the 1059 Vincent/Mcgill plant. It has been slow growing till now. I almost pulled the plant earlier, but I wanted a cross between this and the 1622 young. I hope it takes.
Thursday, July 15 View Page
This is the other 875 Blais plant that I have growing. This one has a small pumpkin that split. This plant and my son's plant also had a split in the main near the stump. It seems to be fine now, with huge leaves on it. I hope it gets a huge pumpkin on it too. The next pic will show the split in the pumpkin.
Thursday, July 15 View Page
Here it is, also has a wierd shape to it. never seen a small one split this early.

the 1622 plant ......almost filled in the whole patch. the plant is twice the size I normaly have in here. All the other years I have 2 pumpkins growin in the same area. This year It's only 1 ...so in reality I should have 2 times the size pumpkin. So far I'm way haead of last year as far as the time I got a pumpkin growing. Most years I don't get anything pollinated untill the 1st or second week in july This year it was the last week of june.

Here Is my son Craig feeding his pumpkin on the 875 Blais plant. He says I'm not going to feed mine and not his. He wants to beat me so bad, he watches every move I make when watering the pumpkins, and feeding and makes sure they get the same amount of water. His plant is only about 200 sq. ft. and It's doing well.
Sunday, August 1 View Page
He is making sure he gets everything covered, he isn't going to miss anything.

Pumpkin on the 875 Blais. I don't know what is going on with this pumpkin, it's now 3 weeks old and looks funny and ugly. It has rubs like it is old already. If anyone has any Idea let me know!
Sunday, August 1 View Page
This ia a field pumpkin on the 87# wolf plant. I'm showing it because of the huge stem on it. I hope the big stem is a reflection of how big the pumpkin is going to get. It is also shaped like a peanut, it remindes me of the planters peanut, should make an interesting jack-o-lantern.
Sunday, August 1 View Page
Here is another pumpkin on another 87# wolf plants. All of the pumpkins were crossed with another wolf plant, so does it make them a self or a cross? interesting question. The seeds were from the same mother pumpkin but different plants.
Sunday, August 1 View Page
Here is one more, with a huge stem.

Friday, August 27 View Page
So he says! Quick lets hook up an Intra venus! It needs some fluid.....better inject it here!!!
Friday, August 27 View Page
Doc Kyle says!!! OOOHHHHHH NNNOOO !!!! quick get the life support! we'll have to shock it to keep it going. Phewww!!! we made it.
Friday, August 27 View Page
Doc Kyle says ! it was a success it's gona live. Thanks Doc!

Sunday evening after inspecting the stem of the 1622 young I found the split under the stem had grown. so I removed the epoxy and refilled it with silicone. Tonight I measured it again and the numbers aer EE=93" SS=85",and Cir.= 144" for an est. weight of 703lbs a new personal best so far. And it is still growing.
Friday, September 3 View Page
Measured my son's pumpkin and it measures CC=116". SS=72"..EE=79"=267 OTT for 407 lbs Not to bad for a 9 year old!! He's done a great job.
Monday, September 6 View Page
measured tonight and the 1622 is Cir.146" the SS = 86 the EE = 94 for a total of 326 " and = to 729 lbs still growing and it grew another 26lbs this week.
Tuesday, September 14 View Page
this is the latest picture from the 1622 young.I thought it had stopped growing so I just left it alone. I had found some small pumpkins growing in the plant after I let the Tertiary vines grow, to off set the hail damage. And I measured it tonight and It had grew another 23lbs this week. It is now up to EST. 760 lbs And it still has 4 weeks to grow. I thought by now, with the cooler temps it was done growing,So back to watering it at night after work.I haden't watered it in a week, since there was no growth the last time I measured it. The plant has almost renewed itself with all the tertiary vines . It looks like a spring plant. and no signs of PM or any disease.Maybe this is why it has started growing again. It just might make 800 lbs. It would be nice if it went heavy and makes 1k. It also thumps solid. I tried to rock it a bit and no luck could not move it.
Tuesday, September 14 View Page
Blosson end view of the 1622 young. It has been turning orange from the bottom up. I'm not sure if it showes in the pic. I hope it continues to turn, it's a nice color orange.
