okay, i know it is '07 already, but here is a pic anyway of the 600 Fasciano (978.6 Berard X 1048 Companion)
pollinated by the 363 Drake (832 Pukos X 1301.4 Whittier).
estimated weight was 320 pounds. this plant was the
first to be ready for pollination and was trouble-free.
all of the fruits on this plant looked the same and were very hard to cull because they were all so fine!

for anyone who is great with genetics, they might be interested in this cross of my 287 EST. '06 Gerry:
210.5 Gerry '05 ((582 Hester X SELF)
X 363 Drake (832 Pukos X 1301.4 Whittier)).
nnnyeahhhh, i grew it in a spot where i did not expect
ANYTHING to grow, let-alone anything BIG, so it DID do all right for the spot it was in. so, it must be a hardy cross if nothing else, lol.

Just for fun i submitted this in the future, from April 18th, 2008, just so that i could direct someone to this pic of my friend Jim Kubak's 528.5 '07 from my
620 Est. '06 seed.
the 620 Est. '06 is
(582 Hester X 600 Fasciano (978.6 Berard X 1048 Companion))
apparently, the 600 Fasciano is a good orange-injector. EG

for those of you concerned with whether or not your Mycorrhizae still works, here is once again my
Gerry Germ-Buck set up: http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=17908
which, when active and has Mycorrhizae (in this case, Bio-Grow Endo-Plus from Joel Holland) mixed into the seed starting mix at one half cup or so per average-sized
bag of SS mix plus 3/4 gallon of water, produces the
fuzzy-white and welcome sight of Myco growing on top of the mix in my 4-inch peat pots. TWO pots have Myco and two do not.
no one has to be this elaborate to see it work, but the SS mix does get to be a nice 95 degrees or so in the Germ-Buck. the Myco typically
"sprouts" or "sporates" or whatever in about 24-48 hours
noticeably. i would guess that a small amount in a small
test would indicate that it is still good, those of you that have it in cold storage and are wondering. eric g

oyyy, man, has it been a while since i last posted a pic? yep! i had troubles with germinations this year, even after having been a near-expert at it in years past; the H&m% D#p*t (don't want any lawsuits, lol)did not have the usual Scotts brand of seed-starting mix that i had become accustomed-to over the years, and now they had the
M!r@cl# G(0w kind that has a little bit of fertilizer in it and it just did not work for the majority of the seeds i was gonna grow this year. 998 Pukos, 1026 Holland, a couple of my 912.5 '06 and 2-125 Wolfs all fell victims to the Non-Germination hatchet.
anyway, SOME did sprout, such as my LAST 845 Bobier and
my ONLY 940 Mombert '98. 9 plants altogether i have in.
here is my 912.5 Gerry '06 (1370 X 582), poll'd by the 488 Matto (1157 La Rue X 1225.4 Jutras), i think, under its makeshift shade structure. more to follow. eric

here is that said fruit with a soda can for size reference.
this pic was taken about two weeks ago, and the fruit IS
quite larger now than it is here. i have yet to measure any of my fruits so far, but very soon. this biggie-to-be
caused the plant to abort all other fruits. fine with me! eg

i tell ye, i will try to never grow any pumpkin plant if i can help it without the fencing around it seen here as a windbreak. I saw it at a landscaping place in a pile and was smart enough to ask about it and keep after it and eventually get 13 pieces 8' X 6'...nice deal, too, but had to start paying retail @ $22.95 each once the used stuff was all put-up. i love the stuff. it is like a head-start on the protection of the plants from the moment it is nearby.
doesn't help with the weeds but makes it LOOK like somebody knows how to treat a la....errr, plant. ha ha
well, here's a pic from the the blossom end of my
(at that time) biggest fruit.

well, again, it has been a lonnnnnnng time since i have posted anything here. this pic is of my
488 Matto (1157 La Rue X 1225.4 Jutras) fruit, which was poll'd by the 845 Bobier '00 on 7-6-07.
WOW--this 'Windows Picture Viewer' is amazing--
i just click on part of the picture with the little plus sign and it centers and enlarges the pic at the same time.
comes in handy for looking at the specs on my
'epitaph'? of the fruit's info.
so far behind on measurements and such, but one month ago this fruit was est. at 288 total inches/507 pounds.
i sure hope it is heavy! it was still growing in the pic, judging by the little bamboo stake i place next to each of my fruits to at least confirm SOME sort of growth, lol.

this is a recent pic of the 940 Mombert '98 fruit o' mine.
it is self-pollinated. i have thought all this time that the 940 X SELF cross was a rarity.
sort-of; there are only two, with no reported offspring,
listed in the AGGC. now i have the 'X SELF' cross
in this pumpkin as well as in the 300-350-pound cull
i took off this plant a month ago. yeah, they sprout,
but i let the seeds get a little too ripe in the fruit,
and a fluffy fungus develops on the seed as it waits to sprout. BUMMER!
no fear>>>a little athlete's foot spray
applied to the fluff actually killed the fluffungus, lol.
the seedling is now growing nicely today!
VISUAL estimate on this pumpkin is 550-600pounds.
