New house means a new patch. Still a lot of work to do, I hope I can get it ready in time.

Being a new patch I realized the tilling did not get very deep so I have to go the manual route and broad fork about 3,000 sq. ft. I'm in fairly good shape so it's not too hard but sure does take a lot of time. I'm about halfway done.

It took about a week working a few hours here and there but almost finished with the broadfork. As soon as I'm done I'll be adding amendments and I already have the rototiller rented for the weekend.
Hopefully I'll have time to start seeds soon.

I'm sure the entries so far have not been very exiting for those reading but it sure took a lot of work to get things this far.
I'm planning 4 plants each in a 25x25 area with dahlias grown in the foreground and on the right side of the picture.
Until just recently I did not realize how nice the soil was in the prior patch. This soil has a lot more clay and does not feel as nice to the touch, lots of little dirt clods. Hopefully I'll be able to grow some big pumpkins.
Last year's big one split on 9/6 measuring just shy of 1,200 lbs. I hope I can have a pumpkin measuring that big this year.
Still no seeds started...

Seeds were started 4/14 and are all up under a grow light. They will have to be transplanted this weekend.
We have lots of deer around the house so Im hoping to have a deer fence up within the next couple weeks.

The deer fence is up. 6 ft deer fence and it's extended two additional feet with two strands of 16 gauge wire to make it 8 ft. tall. I hope this will keep them out, time will tell.
Overall the pumpkins are coming out of the gates slow. Even though I've worked the soil pretty well I'm keeping my expectations low with the new patch.

Pumpkins are a couple weeks behind where I would like them but growing strong. Dahlias have started growing around the outside and should start to take off soon.
There has been a lot of deer sign outside the fence and none on the inside so so far the 8 foot height has been enough to keep them out.
