This is the 1502 Wallace. I had decided not to list a diary this year, but changed my mind this morning. I started out back in April with the 1041 McKie seed not germinating. Then, I had several of my plants with excellent genetics slow to a crawl when we experienced week after week of cold, rainy weather most of May. I pulled all but this 1502 plant out in frustration. I have done everything we are supposed to - added kelp, humic acid, mycorr., spray with seaweed, molasses etc. Nothing good was happening. I had a pumpkin on the main vine, about 15 feet out, that was in perfect position. I pollinated it, and forgot about it. It was the smallest pumpkin I have ever seen. It was 2" circumference when blooming. When I looked at it the night before it opened, I thought it might open in a few days, since it was so small. At day 10, it was 14" cc. I had given up on it. Next thing I knew, it started growing faster than any pumpkin I've had during the six years I've grown them. For the last 10 days, things are looking better each day. The 1502 may salvage an otherwise terrible pumpkin season.

Last season, we had four hard hail storms, each time destroying 80% of my leaves. To keep that from happening this season, I have 400 sq ft of the 1502 covered with shade cloth. The 1502 is X self, since it was the only plant I had left.
