Back in February it was very cold here in upstate New York. The ground was frozen rock hard. One of the biggest thing that you don't want to do in the spring is to be working in your patch when the ground is wet and packing the soil. Which causes hard pan under your top soil. So I figured this was the perfect time to spread my compost on my two pumpkin patches.

The weather here has been warmer then normal for March. I spent time getting my Kubota ready for the spring and decided to give the tiller a trail run on my patch.I was very surprised on how dry my two pumpkin patches were. So I spent last weekend tilling both of them up really good.

I got four dump trailer loads of a mixure of cow manure/corn silage/haylage. About seventy-five percent of it is cow manure. Each load was about five cubic yards. I worked it into the soil really good and I was able to plant my forth cover crop tonight as well. The cover crop I planted was Pacific Gold Mustard. I did mix a little oats in with it. The mustard seed was easy to spread after I mixed it with soybean.

Every year in September the Village of Waterville has what is called " Crusin into Waterville. Waterville is only 2.5 miles from my house. It's a day of different bands playing all day. A huge car show. Last year there was over 200 old cars and some old trucks. Motorcycle show, many crafts and food sales. A very long parade. Every year I get bugged about putting a pumpkin in the parade so people can see what a huge pumpkin looks like. But every year The Crusin into Waterville is earlier then the weigh-off's. But this year my smallest pumpkin had developed a small hole in one of the top ribs two weeks ago. So I plugged the hole with caulk.I was surprised this saturday morning when I taped my pumpkin to get a OTT and it was still growing. OTT Measurements were 152.5 +92.5 + 94 = 339 which comes out to a estimate weight of 818.5. The pumpkin was weighed on a certified digital scales and it's weight was 933.5. According to AGGC weight estimation it went 14% heavy, Pumpkin was grown from 1316 Harp
