This year I decided to plant all local seeds from the class of 2014. Pictured here is the 1775 Sperry (1813 Northrup X 1676 Daletas). I would like to introduce her 1495 genetics into my other two pumpkins. Offspring of both parent pumpkins tend to go heavy.

Rounding out the trio is my own 1449 Pappas ( 1400 Pappas X 1734 Stiel) This is my personal best so far. This pumpkin has an impressive family tree and was good looking too.

The plants have taken a lot of wind damage from passing storms in the last week. This plant was damaged by a wind propelled hoop house that rolled on top of it. The second and third secondary's were crushed on the right side. Miraculously, the main vine and stem were undamaged. In a week or so, I predict the damage won't be noticeable.

Ok that should have read: This pruned vine rooted in the compost pile. I think I'll let it grow some and see what happens. There is a female flower at the tip.

The 1449 plant is at about 600 sf in this picture. The pollination on June 23 took and has grown somewhat more slowly than I would have liked at this point. The summer evenings here in Southeast Mass. have been cooler than average this year.I'll blame it on that.

I had to cull the 1870 pumpkin pollinated on the 22nd. Overall, I wasn't happy with the shape of the lobes, it's growth rate, and "someone " gouged it with a piece of plywood.

I lost my 1870 Lieber pumpkin. I have lost them with just about every way you can but this one was a new one on me. An upper rib began to change color not unusual this time of year. A few days later mold spots began to grow. Then they foamed. The autopsy didn't reveal any clues
