I came into the new year cancer free and open heart surgery very successful. Didn't take me long to try and get out on the ice and do some fishing. Well managed to tear a hamstring that will take 6-12 months to heal as soon as I hit the ice. Luckily I have family and friends to help me out. Fence is getting redone to keep deer and woodchucks out which was my biggest problem. I'm gonna concentrate on a big veggie garden this year and only do 2-3 giants not my usual 10. Filing and soaking 3 today. 1765 Young ( 839 Sandercock selfed) what a beauty that was. 804 Kissamore (1977 Rea x 2365) grown in 150 sq ft patch and might have been HD. Doug Thank You!! Other 2 are 804 Gansert ( who in their right mind would grow a Gansert Seed anyway) and the 1416 Young. Can we say ORANGE!! I'm gonna drive myself nuts with 2 different 804s going. Good Luck to everybody this year. T Sunday, April 19 View Page Just for my records I started my seeds a day later than posted. Unfortunately my 804 Kissamore did not germ. Started another one 2 days ago. Hope this one takes. Still have other one in germ chamber just in case. Did paw around in starting cup and seed looks unchanged and still solid. See what happens. Normal 48-60 hour pushing up thru dirt on other 3 seeds with the Gansert seed up first again. A little snow today and low 20s on the way. Monday, April 20 View Page Snow, sleet, freezing rain did not deter the 2nd 804 Kisamore we have take off!! First one is toast. I have access to some nicely aged manure and have been adding a bunch with much more to come. About 20 yards of 2-3 year old manure already in some from last year. Snow and frost are gone so we can get going. Tuesday, May 12 View Page Had a couple dump trailer loads spread in my veggie garden and spread. Might not be totally veggie?? Also did a litttle shopping around for walking boards....got rough cut 1"x10-12"x16' have about 50 or 60. Free from the Sanders Farm...doesn't get any better than Friends and Barter without saying to many words!!!!! Tuesday, May 12 View Page I added about 30 yards of manure to the main patch. Dumped another 20 yards of last years manure in piles at back end of patch for future leveling and growing. Looking to make the next couple years easier on myself. Wednesday, June 24 View Page Been a real rough spring health wise. Spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia. Computer and fridge both shit the bed while I was in the hospital. Weeds and woodchucks are a real pain in the ass. Won't have much for AGs but veggie garden, field kins gourds and glass gem corn are doing great. 9-12 months for hamstring to heal and just started rehab. Family and friends helping me out!!!!! I'm optomistic as my cancer checkup showed me clean and no more visits for 3 months. Open heart surgery is holding up well. A little weak ( OK a lot weak) but I'm plugging along. More updates when I get the patch under control. Grow em big n orange!!! Look out for field kins from me. Monday, August 10 View Page Geez Ken it's been dry here and we still have a little fungus. Only one edible. Saturday, August 22 View Page Did a patch Tour at my Nephew Ryans and he has a couple nice ones going. This is 1765Young seed crossed with 1619 Gansert and it has the Cali spots which you can't see real well from pic. Approximate weight 950 lbs. Growing in 500 sq ft area. Saturday, August 22 View Page Not to be outdone Mr. Ganserts 1619 is holding it's own. Unfortunately no viable males from the 1765 so it was selfed.
