In keeping with the recent international trend to promote the Atlantic Giant Pumpkin as an indoor plant, I have started 2- 1291.5 Pantano19 (1613 McCracken x 1501 Wagner) seeds. The plan is up the adjoining curtain pull, along the curtain rod to the chain for the drop lamp, back to the curtain rod and onto the corner cabinet. Let’s count the flowers along the way!

9 weeks and 9 feet up the curtain pull, across the curtain rod, now along a rope guide to the hanging lamp. Multiple small flower buds. Growing Giant American Pumpkin vines as a house plant has merit and should be adopted as an international winter-early spring sport. Awesome flowers surrounding the window frame. Why not?

12’ -on to and well past the hanging lamp, on the way back to the curtain rod and finally, on to the corner cupboard! Never actually achieved corner cupboard, but this may be the year. Hmmmm – that’s a rather common, but seemingly never realized expectation of the sport. Also - TIME TO START THE SEEDS! YAHOO!!! I think I'm gonna skip the heating cables this year, never convinced they made a difference in the heated portable greenhouse. Simplification - yes - that may be the answer.

Final Team: 1st set – 2046 Montsma (2520 Schmit x 1189 Wild); 2080 Bernstrom– (2365 Wolf 2501 Bernstrom) seeds started today
1 week later – 2nd set 2070 Bernstrom (2501Bernstrom x 2749 Gienger) and 2084 Bassett ( 2610 Petrelli x 2480 Grahan)
1 week later – 3rd set 2004 Bernstrom (2749 Gienger x 2501 Bernstrom) and 2098 Bassett ( 2480 Graham x 2493 Wolf)
Plant 1st set in opposite directions, 2nd set side by side 1st set and if lose any of those have the 3rd set going. The 2 vines that finally make it usually come from the 2nd or 3 sets. First set commonly freezes, kinks, gets stepped on, splits the main – they never make it.

Initial tilling of enough space for the portable greenhouse – no big deal, but apparently everybody is so anxious they have to show off their dirt – so here’s mine. 2046 Montsma and 2080 Bernstrom in pots 4 days ago. (no, no plans to show the pots – yet)
