Well this is my first year of AG growing so fingers crossed for me and my boys.
Many thanks to Jorg Wagler for his seeds which made it here and are now in pots.
Thanks for trying to Frank and Fred but just proves yet again sending money in the post isn´t a good idea. The post here is very hit and miss.
Having set up two plots at the moment one small and set up dug over with goat manure and preped . ( i hope)
The second plot is set to be dug over and fenced in with inn the next couple of weeks but may prove a problem later on as it a mountain plot with a poor access route and limited water.

storm force winds and heavy rain battering the island.
The roof of the house is loosing tiles the trees are being uprooted just waiting now until i can get out to see what damage has been done to the plants.

Well the winds have died down to a lovely 50kms per hours.
And what can i see?
Nothing! all the small plants have completely gone.
The test plant with the small kins is now little more than a bare single vine.
6 of the 8 seedlings sown as back up in the garage have also secumbed to the winds due to windows being blown out.
The two sets of seeds sent out to uncles in other parts of the island have fared no better so now have to wait to see what is recoverable.

well have cleared the debris one both of the plots.
collected all the parts left over by the wind which are now in intensive care ( cut into short lengths and potted into rooting gel to see if i can get any plants off the shreaded material)
The two surviving seedlings dont look to bad now and are coming around quite quick so may be put into the ground soon.

Well yesterday and today were good days here.
Pollinated two females yesterday both big 5 lobe flowers and two females today one 5 lobe and one 4 lobe.
Now just fingers crossed as this plant has been in the ground since the 6th of November last year and is getting bigger by the day now.
She was only planted out as a test seed into a smallish patch and has endured all winter here and then the 100mph winds and tropical rain the other week.

Well so far so good, now have 5 little kins the size of tennis balls. Three are on the main vine, one at 6 metres out one at 7 and one at 8 metres out. Two more are on a side vine one each. Now just fingers crossed and see which one stays and which end up getting cut off. As this is my first AGs i will be waiting to see which seem to be growing the best but suspect one on the main will be the one. The one at 7 metres out seems to be growing quicker than the rest and was pollinated last so i will wait a bit and see what happens.

Well the test plant is still growing slowly but growing.
It still has two little kins on it 29lbs and 28lbs growing very slowly.
The good news is that this years main event plants are in the ground and growning well.
In plot one a Wagler 907 which seems to want to grow very fast already 2.5 metres long in less than 3 weeks in the ground.
In plot 2 a Wagler 677.7 and a Wagler 929.5 which has proved very interesting as all three plants were transplanted on the same day and although in plot one the plant is now 2.5 metres in length the other two in plot 2 are a lot smaller with the biggest measuring in at 1 metre. Maybe because its a lot higher up the mountain and cooler at nights?

Well it has been three days of 59 degrees f here or 15 degrees Celcius, cold and wet with light rain for the three days now just waiting for what is coming next. Normally after cool weather with rain we get 30+ degrees C or 86 + degrees f. Oh well thats Tenerife for you one day hot and sunny the next cold and wet.

well we are still in 35 degrees c or 95 ish for those of you using fahrenheit. The growth has all but stopped on both the small kins. I have covered them with car windscreen sun protectors, not sure if this will help but hope it will limit the heat and sun on the kins.

Well been to the patch this morning and did my watering, weeding, fertilizing and measuring. Only to find one of my kins has suffered the same fate as some of my beens and onions last year.
MIL virus! Strikes very fast and now down to one kin on the test plant.
Waiting to see if the two females one the wagler 907 have taken so will have to spray more and keep my eyes open wide for signs of the MIL virus this time.

Well a few questions to ask the experts if they can help but a lot of smiles here as well.
First does anyone know why all the males on my Wagler 907 are as they are without stamens? Other than that im very happy with it and think im not doing too bad.

Well got home from work today and went straight round to patch one. Ive been neglecting it for nearly a week due to work commitments. The MIL virus has hit again this time on the second pumpkin on the test plant.
At least the MIL virus had the decency to weigh it in for me and let me know that it weighed in at 31 kgs.
So i suppose tomorrow will be a trip to see my second pumpkin of the year to get a photo of it.
Oh well thank the lords for the Wagler 907 going well and now has 3 little kins on it. waiting for day 10 to see how they have all done.

Well of the 5 baby kins one has aborted one doesnt seem to be growing much but the one on the main seems to be going well with a circ of 22 at day 10, one on the side vine is 19,5 circ and another on a side is 19. I have one more on the main that was pollinated this morning at 5 am so fingers crossed now for one or two that look like they want to grow well. Id really like one of 100kgs or more to prove to myself that i can grow them and make my boys happy after all their hard work in the patch.
And last but by no means least show Jorg in Germany that his seeds are great even for novice beginners to grow.

Its been a week since i last got up to the patch due to work. my boy has been up there and hasnt watered due to light rain every night.
Today i find the kin on the main has aborted but a new baby just after it with a note saying pollinated on the 14th by my boy. The kin on the side vine now has an ott of 104 inchs so not looking too bad for my first year at day 21.
