So i've tried to grow some AG's the last couple of years but it mostly just buy a packet of seeds from Lowe's, stick them in the ground, feed them miracle grow and see what happened. Not a very succcessful plan. lol So this year i started doing research and attempt to make a serious run at growing one. This is a picture of my patch. It's small so I can only do one plant so we'll see what happens. Its approx 10x30 and I built a coldframe using cntryboy's build as an example and just kind of winging it. Came out pretty good I think.

So I went with some seeds I bought from Dill Enterprises. I've started two Companion 1125 and I'll plant the one that seems heartiest. I started them on 4/11 in a 3% solution of Peroxide for about 30 mins. Then I soaked them in a 1tsp to 1cup solution of Neptunes Seaweed and Fish Fertilizer overnight for about 8 hours. Then I planted them in to re-purposed milk jug's cut in half with lightlh moistened basic potting soil. I put them in a cooler with a 15w bulb along with thermometers to measure the temp in the cooler and the temp of the soil. Soil temps are holding at 85 degrees. They've been going for about 40 hrs so far. No sign of anything poking through just yet.

So I have a clay soil type so I tilled up this area that previously was part of my yard. I did a soil test on it and this is what it came back with.

After my initial test on the existing soil, I had 3 cu yds of compost and garden soil delivered to spread over top and mix in with the clay. I did another soil test on this new dirt and this is what came back. I added some garden sulfur pellets from Lowe's to the soil to lower the ph but havent retested to see the new level. I just want to get it below 7.5 and I'll be happy.

My pumpkins were started 3 weeks ago today and went in the ground 2 weeks ago today. I'm most likely going to cull the one on the left since I only have room for one plant. So far I've done two applications of Fertilome on them.

Two pumpkins growing after pollination. One of these two should be 'the one'.

Picture from the far end of the patch. Nice size plant for my first time I think.

11 days since fruit set. The one on the left is measures OTT 89 and the one on the right is OTT 83.5. Planning on cutting loose the one on the right but waiting a bit longer. The left one had some critter damage on a couple of spots so I want to make sure its just cosmetic and not going to affect its growth. Its healing slowly but so far doesn't seem to be affecting it. We'll see.

Day 13, OTT 111 on the big one. The backup has nearly stopped growing so I am going to cull it starting tomorrow.

Day 15 OTT 126. I cut the stem halfway on the backup. It had stopped growing pretty much at this point. The main one is still growing like crazy. Going to finish the cutting of stem on the backup tomorrow. Then we will be down to 'the one'.

Day 16. OTT 128.5. Did a good drench and foliar feed with molasses, humic acid and seaweed & fish fertilizer. We'll see if that kickstarts the growth a bit more. Also, did a 2nd stem cut in the backup and will finish the culling of that one tomorrow morning.

My 128 OTT on day 20 that aborted around day 17 or 18. It had some minor critter damage but it had healed, or so I thought. I culled the backup just before this aborted unfortunately. Back to square one.

Not sure what this is but i have some leaves that are yellowing around the edges. Anyone have any idea what it is or who I can control/get rid of it? Its only a few leaves. Was thinking it was due to the excessive heat but I'm not sure?

Pollinated this one on a side vine. Hopefully this one takes.

Day 1 after pollination. Heat has been bad but I've had the misters on it to keep it cool I hope this one holds...

These are some dying/dead leaves at the stump. Is this just old age for these original leaves or is there something else going on? Any ideas?

Not sure what is going on here. This is the end of the main vine.
