I cultivated the soil for 7 hours today with my pick. It was nice to run into dark areas of organic matter from previous years. I enjoyed being outside. I saw vultures flying overhead, turkeys walking through the field, lots of insects including a large bee that hovers near the ground, and a cricket frog. The soil is still kind of rough and heavy with some big clods. I plan on adding more organic matter in the upcoming months. I'm trying to get the structure I had when I grew my then Indiana state record 815 pound pumpkin in 1999.
