well here we go this is my second year growing giant pumpkins and getting a late start at this diary thing. But to get you all caught up this is my #1 pumpkin 1148 menting F x 1232 martin M day 30 103" cir has had problems with stem split since day 1 and has not stopped yet.Doing all i can to slow him down with 7+" of rain end of last week.
Wednesday, July 28 View Page
pumpkin#2 seed stock F x menting M day# 10 32" cir all bumpy looking. The only female on that plant that took, now i think its starting to rot off by stump due to all the rain we have had.
Monday, August 2 View Page
no new pictures.Plant #1 stem split has stopped so far and the growing has taken back off she put on an impressive 15" of cir from friday night to sunday night.
Monday, August 2 View Page
plant #2 a small weeping hole were stem meets pumpkin has started, packed full of captan paste hope it holds. Finally was able to stop the main vine from bubbling out some goo, had to dig it up and uncover it then recoat it in captan paste then covered with a pillow case (I'm sure my wife will love that i trashed a white one)seems to be doing well.I think the rot has slowed if not stopped.finally pollonated a second pumpkin i know its late but I need more pumpkins for my display and these pumpkins look so bumpy and weird that it makes them cool. By weeks end hope to have some more pictures of my patch and my 2 other buddies patches
Friday, August 6 View Page
here is a photo of my patch this is of plant #1 (1148 menting). It only has about 300 square feet to roam in almost all of the vines are dead headed.Only the main and 1 secondary still above the ground main vine is close to 35 feet long
Friday, August 6 View Page
here is plant #2 (seed stock). this one also has only about 300 square feet to roam. Most of the vines are dead headed. not a very good plant day 30=74" this plant i have been trying to keep from rotting, lots of bubbling on vines and at the stem of the pumpkin.I was going to cut it off but...... it looks cool.I pollonated a second a few days ago so i could have an extra pumpkin for the display
Friday, August 6 View Page

Friday, August 6 View Page
and some more picts of another buddies patch. we all live within 5 min of each other. this is a jutras seed stock growin good. pictures are from before we trimmed back around the pumpkins
Friday, August 6 View Page
and then the one that no one gave any love to when it was small(way to go robin). it was growing on the main and had secondaries growing under it.By the time i was called in to fix, the main was already split and under the pumpkin.so i came in and cleaned up the mess and under that pile of leves and vines was 110"cir pumpkin this photo is from before i pruned up the plant. i think the cross was F 699 gantner X 1232 martin. the 699 is my aunts so i know its good plus that 1232 martin ye haw
Friday, August 6 View Page
finaly the one that got away its hard to tell but this is growing on its stem and also got no love(way to go robin again)just like the gantner 699, growin on the main which resulted in a split main vine and actually had pumpkins set out on a secondary that grew under the pumpkin.I was also called in to save this one but...... in the vine removal and clean up efforts a slight move tying to free up the main then all of a sudden POW the pumpkin came off the vine. the plant is a 1232 martin realy nice shape. sorry dude!!!! the only upside to the story is that he grows them at his bar so we could mourn the loss with a cold adult beverage.I think it would weight out at 350-400#. will post pictures after the clean up soon
Friday, August 13 View Page
Well I have been out of town for the last week and I don't have a clue on how good my pumpkins are doing left the fate of my plants with my neighbor..... I sure hope he didn't forget about my babies. Well got to get back to my adult beverages its starting to get warm. Current weather in florida is hot and very muggy. will post picts when I get home.

Thursday, August 19 View Page
this is robins 699 plant top view aprox weight is 533 can kinda see the stem / vine split that happens when you let the pumpkin grow on it. its been repaired for now
Thursday, August 19 View Page
a close up view. WOW . just imagine how big the pumpkin could have been?????? well its a good thing we have plenty of seeds for that plant
Thursday, August 19 View Page
this is one thats growin slow on the 1232 martin just was pollonated to late good for a display
Thursday, August 19 View Page
now i take you to a very top secret location... this is only 2 plants there was a third but it just wasn't up to par so she cut it off
Thursday, August 19 View Page
as you can see she's already gettin ready for next year this pile will get larger as fall nears
Thursday, August 19 View Page
ok ok this is a small one that is growing on the first plant i think it's a Mcmullen seed, not sure after all its top secret. something like 400-500# not sure she doesnt tell me all the details on the small ones
Thursday, August 19 View Page
and another this is on the revier plant it currently not even connected to the plant any more to slow of a grower 500-600# once again not alot of details
Thursday, August 19 View Page
and then there was one this is also on th revier plant this pumpkin is big; tall, round, big.... aprox 763# last week she only tapes at the ten day marks but was growing at a pace of 20+ pounds a day so we will just have to see how big it will get.... it is in a very top secret location so i will have to sneek in threw the fence and snag some picts in the comming weeks. This plant has had a foaming stump issue see next picture
Thursday, August 19 View Page
well here it is the foamy stump after surgery and plenty of powder this thing is HUGE cant tell do to having nothing to have for scale but its big 8-10 inches across

top view of the good one
Thursday, August 19 View Page
a front view. This is the menting plant it is wheel shaped with the blossom on the underside aprox weight OTT 523#,146"+ cir. i know its probably not goin to hit 1000# but i can say i have beat my personal best by over 100#+ and i still have about 40 days left.It might sound funny but my aunt and myself are starting to plan next year already.already put my order in from my manure guy he said he has been putting together a special blend for me from his farm and has started 2 other big piles for 2012 he was saying i'm going to need a bigger truck to haul my pumpkin in with the new blend of poo that is ready. I think his mix is (horse, chix, cow, goat, turkey, sheep and any other random animal that makes poo that he has on his farm) thanks colin.
Monday, August 23 View Page
well no good news from over the weekend. i noticed on plant #2 that there is a bad spot on the stem / handle area i can fit my finger all the way inside the fruit. Is this bad? filled it up with fungiside and hoping for the best. plant #1 is just growing at a snails pace only 20 pounds for the last week.noticed some rot happening on the stem handle area also laid down fungiside and hoping for the best this plant is growing blossom end down with the stem almost 3 feet of of the ground it is starting to get rigid had to make a fancy bamboo and zip tie suspension bridge to hold up the vine and to keep it supported will post pics later.Any other advice about stem rot or a better way to support please let me know

If you look at the rear tires you can notice alittle space between the ground and the tire. The 1154 gantner10 almost maxed out the skid steer. Next year I think we need a bigger skid steer!!!!!
