This year’s offseason improvement project was adding sand to the patch to help with drainage.

I spread five tons of sand over the entire patch. The thickness was about two inches over my 1300 sqft patch.

I tilled it in and planted a cover crop of winter rye, winter peas, and tillage radish. Tilled everything in a few weeks ago and sent out a soil test. My pH is much higher than last year so the sand might have been very alkaline.

Plastic is on the patch and seeds were started today.
