The improved temporary greenhouse with groundheating since May 10th.
It has been utterly needed, because here we got two weeks between 3 and 9 degrees Celsius. Now temerature improves somehow.

Since june 2nd the greenhouse has been removend, good weather has arrived finally.
Also the soilheating is not needed anymore, nighttemps are 13°c, that is sufficient for independent growth.
Thanks to cousin Willem Kiewiet who gave me the ground heating system, the plant is in good shape and in good competition growth.
Many thanks Willem!!
More than 3 weeks earlier we [Martha and me] are now than last year, and that in the coldest springtime since 1991!
Potential Dutch competition stuff, for Dutch Brad and Iwan Horde, if things go well: weather and good luck, are the main factors.

The potential champion female flower of my offspring 864Kiewiet09 of the 1058Ghaye08 has the size of 3mm today.
The seed has been planted at April 8th, popped up 9 days later and transplanted at April 26th to the [soil]heated greenhouse.
Within 10 days or two weeks the flower might be ready for pollination......
The bad weatherforcast improves day by day, thankgod.
If it might be too early, may be flower nr 2?
Finally I reached that I am on scedule this year.
Martha and me go for it. :-)
good luck to all!

first and second female on the main vine of the 864Kiewiet09 (1058ghaye08 x self).
The second will be selected, most probably, the third is not far: only two flowers later.:) Sufficient choice!
So far so good, just a bit behind, because the greenhouse is missing, the somehow cooler day teperatures at the seashore here and hot weather did nog arrive YET!...

The 864Kiewiet09, ±13 feet long, open pollination today, one male flower of 568Duchezeau05 is available (and more selfed); no flowers of 1264Ghaye09: the shoots coloured very yellow after an extreme cold weekend with a bit sunshine and I took it out.
Going for two pumkins now, a heavy and a nice one, God and me willing. :-)
The 864Kiewiet09 grows prosperous, but leaves are still small due to some extreme cold weeks in june and a few days allmost without sunshine.
Now weather improves and royal +20°c temperatures appears, even a long cherished and wished heathwave is possible!!!
The second plant 568Duchezeau05 in the back behind in the garden has a female flower ready with one week or so, with a very small corner it might bring a nice shiny red coloured but not so big pumpkin.
My wish of pollinating a serious pumpkin candidate at the early end june goes into fullfillment, Willem, again many thanks giving the groudheating element. It had done marvellous!
Now more good luck, and water-water-water, with some extra organic minerals after a while, when it is all big and strong anough....
Good luck too all! :-)
So far the frut at the flower is full yellow...

The864Kiewiet09 second flower and serious canditate at good size on the vine, nice 5 lobbed and opened in the early morning.
Handpollination with one male flower of the 568Duchezeau05 and most probably more selfed by the bees/insects.
Going for it with the best weatherpredictions since 2006!!! :-)

19 days young and hailstorm protection and irrigation have been done.
After meny dry weeks heavy thunderstorm seasons seems to have started. Thank God no hailstones on the patch but too haevy rainwater downpoures should be accounted on too.
So far the patch is free of an overdosis of water.
The pumpkin growth is nice and gives satisfaction so far.

864 Kiewiet 09 starts looking like her mother, 220kg now day 49. Some cold & dry spells brought the grow down in stead of up...
Much more than a personal record & local championship is not within reach, that gives sufficient satisfaction. :-)
The 8kg per day growth should go to 12kg, may be with some heath transport form Russia???

But even 1000Lbs will be out of range....
If she is like her mother (10% light).
