In may when we took our pumpkins out to the patch the daily temp. was in the 60's and lows in upper 40's. on may 8th disater tried to strike temps. at night dropped to mid 20's and daily highs were only making it into the upper 40's. in order to keep the pumpkins warm we used coffee cans an cut the bottoms out and put large candles inside trying to keep the heat in we bought heavy sheets and sleeping bags to help keep heatin we saidly had to do this for 3 concecutive days. the plants survived and took off growing again.

well the rest of may was good to us some nice calm and warm days and some periodic light showers. seeing the rainbow at the very end of the month we thought that june would end up being a dry month.

the month of june was mean out of the 30 days ONLY 5 DAYS were dry the total for the month was 21 and half inches the average temp. jumped to the 90's humidity was always around 80%. the rains seemed to come in bunches. we had 3 storms that each produce 3inches in there stay over our head which lasted 1 and half hours a pieace. plants are still growing but pollinating with ur hip waiters on, and thunder and lighting flashing all over the place is no fun.

No this is not from an earthquake. This is the ground when it doesnt rain for three days just after 21inches of rain. no need to worry about compaction any more after this there is nothing there to compact anymore. July looks really promising.LOL

this is what you call extreme gardening in iowa. if you look at this patch we have sun protection wind/tornado protection deer protection. only way in this patch is through the door or underground. extreme gardening takes extreme measures. on another note we just recieved another 1 1/2 inches
